AQUACULTURE EXPERIENCE: Aquaculture Management
Three years as Chief Marine Biologist and Aquaculture Consultant for Crystal Waters Seafood, an inland 76-acre aquaculture facility located in West Texas culturing Penaeus vannamei, redfish and hybrid striped bass. Fish species are cultured inside of a 30,000 sq.ft. building utilizing a flow through, partial recirculating, grow-out system inclusive of brood and nursery systems. Shrimp are cultured in 4-acre earthen ponds outside.
Three years as CEO and Farm Manager of KAAPA Aqua farms, an 831 acre farm located in Bayview, Texas culturing Penaeus vannamei (Pacific white shrimp) and Redfish from hatchery phase through grow out and harvest, hybrid blue tilapia in an indoor recirculating system and experimental aquaponics grow out producing cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers and herbs using tilapia waste water for nutrient in a closed recirculating system.
Fifteen years as Shrimp Farm Manager and Chief Executive Officer for Grand Bahama Shrimp Company Ltd., and Bahama Shrimp Company Ltd. (formerly Lucayan Aquaculture, Ltd) an inland 100 acre farm located in Freeport, Bahamas culturing Penaeus vannamei (Pacific white shrimp) in a system of 5 Hectare (2.5 acre), marine, super-intensive, 100 % natural, and low exchange lined ponds. Managed the shrimp processing facility for all product produced.
Twenty years of experience producing feasibility studies, design construction and operations plans and budgets for various species including P. Vannamei, P. setiferus, hybrid blue tilapia, red drum and hybrid striped bass.
Master Thesis Research – Carbon Budgets for Intensively Managed Shrimp Ponds
Total carbon was tracked to obtain another view of the movement of chemicals through the system, which are affected by various combinations of water exchange, relative to water quality. The primary result of this work was the production of a carbon budget for marine shrimp ponds. The budgets indicated that sludge was the largest carbon component in each pond, and that phytoplankton production, using CO2 from the atmosphere, was the main carbon assimilation method. The water quality results also indicated that if water quality is maintained, then the rate of exchange does not necessarily have to be as high as previously thought to gain high yields. In addition, filtration of pond water for water quality control does not appear as
effective at water quality maintenance as small amounts of water exchange.

HACCP Certification
Successfully completed a program of training in the principles and application of the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point satisfying the mandatory training requirement contained in 21 CFR, part 123.10. Certificate #1------------6.
Shrimp Hatchery Training
Assistant instructor training individuals in the techniques necessary for growing marine shrimp L. vannamei from egg through the post larval stage with Coastal Science Associates in Florida.
Directed Independent Study
Conducted a growth experiment using Penaeid shrimp in fiberglass round tanks for a period of three months. All water quality and growth parameters were examined. Feed conversion was also calculated.
