I have just completed a History degree at Jesus College, Oxford, for which I received Upper Second-Class Honours. During the course of my degree I particularly focused upon art history, an interest which formed the basis of my thesis, which was an examination of how artistic depictions of T.E. Lawrence by his friends, the artists Eric Kennington and Augustus John, should be situated in the wider historiography, particularly concerning themes of orientalism, sexuality and masculinity. Recently I have also completed my TEFL qualification. I am currently working as the Food, Drink and Travel Editor for High50, with my chief responsibility being writing articles which offer benefits such as discounts to the over 50s.

Workwise, I am experienced in front of house, having worked as a waiter and barman at Ye Olde Fighting Cocks and the Verulam Arms in St. Albans. I also worked in a warehouse in Summer 2019 to raise funds for my trip to the Middle East. In addition to this, I have undertaken desk research for a marketing agency, with a particular focus on social media usage. I also filmed and edited several campaign films for Liberal Democrat candidates standing in Chiswick during the 2018 local elections. Most recently, I created two practice Oxford History Aptitude Tests for Crimson Education.

Outside of work and academia, I greatly enjoy writing. I am the founder and editor of The Outward Bound (theoutwardbound.co.uk), a website devoted to travel writing. As well as running the site, I also regularly write pieces for it about my own travels, usually with an artistic or culinary angle. Recently I completed a series of eight articles documenting my travels in Jordan in search of Lawrence of Arabia, and the people I met on this journey. In general, though, most of the pieces I write are standalone works which offer a snapshot of an experience, sometimes written in prose, sometimes in verse. The hope is that eventually the website may become a printed publication. Before setting up The Outward Bound I was Food & Drink Editor of The Oxford Student, writing articles covering everything from failed pub crawls to historical recipes. However, I am proudest of my offal series, a satirical project with a sincere message which involved me coking, consuming and pontificating about the less appealing cuts of animals which are so often wasted. Whilst I achieved mixed results in the kitchen, the articles, with themes ranging from the Mafia to mortality and cannibalism to Christmas, became surprisingly popular. I typically write about food and art, as these are my greatest passions, and I believe that both can offer indispensable insights into other cultures, as well as our own.

In my free time, when not writing, I enjoy reading, cooking for friends, tasting wine, watching films and planning holidays. I am particularly passionate about Italy, its rich and diverse culture and cuisine, so there is usually an Italian theme to these pastimes.
