Supervisor: Gary Zill ------------) Okay to contact this Supervisor: Yes Volunteer Experience: FWC Okeechobee Biological Field Station. Feb. 2014-March2015 ?Electro-fishing in Lake Okeechobee out of Belle Glade and Pahokee with Alyssa Jordan. I identified each fish to species and recorded total length and weight of all fish collected at each site. ?Collecting invasive apple snails with Tyler Beck and Alyssa Jordan from several different locations in the North West region of the Lake for bio assay study I conducted with the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) under Bruce Sharfstein and Dr. Dean Monette. ?Tagging and monitoring the movement of invasive apple snails through the use of radio telemetry for an ongoing research project that began in 2009 conducted by Dr. Dean Monette at FAU in order to better understand their ecological role in the system. We used a quadrat to collect data on the vegetation that was present where each tagged snail was recaptured. This was recorded as well as their location using a Trimble device. FWC Lake Worth Lagoon Survey Fall 2014 ?Alongside Dr. Scott Markwith and FWC biologists I helped survey areas near ongoing restoration projects for species richness and abundance using boat launched 150 and 75 seine nets. I helped identify down to species and count all fish that were caught for each haul that was conducted measuring the standard length of first 10 individuals of each species. FIU Dr. Jennifer Rehages Lab (Gregory Hill) June 2014-December 2014 ?I assisted Gregory Hill M.S. with the work he was doing using LILA (Loxahatchee Impoundment Landscape Assessment) to research the movement patterns of the warmouth sunfish with the rise and fall of water levels. He showed me how he set up the data collection equipment and how it worked. I also helped him collect crayfish in order to tag them with Passive Integrated Transponder (PIT) tags and monitor their movement within the enclosures as well. FIU Dr. Jennifer Rehages Lab (Ross Boucek) Summer 2014 ?I helped collect measurements, diet samples, and to tag Snook, Bass, and Bowfin in the Florida Everglades with Ross Boucek (PhD candidate) using PIT tags for each one collected and Vemco acoustic tags on larger Snook and Bass. The data collected was added to his database for his research on understanding the importance of freshwater inflows to recreational fisheries in the Everglades estuary. ?I later worked in the Rehage lab with another student helping process the diet samples collected by Ross Boucek over the last year or so identifying down to species or genus if the condition of sample made this possible. FAU Dr. Dean MonetteFeb. 2014- Fall 2014 ?Alongside other students and the FWC and SFWMD I helped Dean Monette track and monitor the movement and preferred vegetation of the invasive apple snail in the North section of Lake Okeechobee. I gained experience with using telemetry equipment and with surveying areas using a quadrat. Jonathan Dickinson State Park Summer 2014? ? Participated in the Florida Scrub Jay walk to help assess their population within the park. Helped with removal of invasive plants located in the park. Job Related Training: ? ? CPR and first aid completed Fall 2012. IACUC Fish certification, basic animal certification. 2014 References: Name Dr. Dean Monette Dr. Ross Boucek Daniel Vandenburg Phone ------------ ------------ ------------ Tommy Yannopoulos------------
