JOB TITLE: Day Camp Sr. Counselor

REPORTS TO: Director of Camping Services

OVERVIEW: Sr. Counselors are assigned to a group of campers to supervise them, engage in camping activities, planning activities (as applicable), assisting with swim lessons, being a positive role model, being flexible, and having a positive attitude throughout each day. Sr. Counselors work closely with their Jr. Counselors and are supervised by a Unit Head but will report to the Camp Director. This position is classified as a Part-Time, Seasonal, Non-Exempt and is not benefits eligible. The Jewish Community Center is an EOE (equal opportunity employer).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Protect the health and safety (emotional and physical) of all campers while at camp and on any trips
Provide experiences that promote individual and group growth
Actively participate in all aspects of the camp experience with the campers
Serve as a role model for young children while emphasizing Jewish values
Follow the assigned work schedule and specific camp tribe schedule
Plan tribe times, transition times and other programs as determined by supervisor(s)
Provide guidance to Jr. Counselors
Remain with the assigned camp tribe, except during assigned break time(s)
Participate in all camper activities and interact with the campers during these activities
Know where assigned campers are located while at camp and on trips
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor(s)

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:

High School diploma or 18 years of age
Ability to cooperate with others
Ability to supervise campers
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to carry-out daily and special programs
Experience working with children
Demonstrates an energetic and positive attitude
Be dependable and have excellent communication skills
Professional in appearance, manner and tone
Possess an attitude that makes for harmonious cooperation with campers, parents, and other staff.

JOB TITLE: Day Camp Unit Head (Lil Chai)

REPORTS TO: Director of Camping Services

OVERVIEW: The Lil Chai Unit Head is assigned to the unit of campers entering kindergarten to supervise them, engage in camping activities, planning activities, supervising swim lessons and free swim, being a positive role model, being flexible, and having a positive attitude throughout each day. The Lil Chai Unit Heads will supervise Lil Chai Lead and non-lead counselors and will report to the Camp Director. This position is classified as a Part-Time, Seasonal, Non-Exempt and is not benefits eligible. The Jewish Community Center is an EOE (equal opportunity employer).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plan and organize all unit activities
Plan late night and special events for the unit
Supervise Lead and non-lead counselors
Coordinate with Specialists for unit activities
Take daily camper and staff attendance
Coordinate parent communications with Camp Director
Assist Camp Director with Staff Orientation, special programs, problem solving and other duties
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor(s)

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:

Degree in elementary education or related field
Minimum one year of experience at Camp Chai or two years of equivalent experience
Ability to cooperate with others
Ability to supervise campers
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to carry-out daily and special programs
Experience working with children
Demonstrates an energetic and positive attitude
Be dependable and have excellent communication skills

REPORTS TO: Teen Travel Camp Director

OVERVIEW: Teen Travel Camp Counselors are responsible for ALL Teen Travel Campers. Counselors will engage in camping activities, plan activities (as applicable), be a positive role model, be flexible, and having a positive attitude throughout each day. Teen Travel Camp Counselors will travel with campers (both locally and outside of the Dallas area) and will be supervised by the Teen Travel Camp Director. This position is classified as a Part-Time, Seasonal, Non-Exempt and is not benefits eligible. The Jewish Community Center is an EOE (equal opportunity employer).

Join us and be a part of a very magical 4 week theater intensive camp that fuses a top-notch performing arts camp with a traditional camp philosophy. Camp Culminates with a fully produced main-stage musical production. Get ready to have the time of your life!

Camp StarQuest General Counselor is responsible for implementing and assisting with core and non-core program experiences for campers in various group settings. This includes leading a variety of large and small group recreational activities when necessary, in addition to assisting Specialty Counselors with a hands-on, role up your sleeves attitude.

General Counselors will also be responsible for the overall safety, well-being and happiness of campers assigned to his or her group, and must identity and respond to camper behavior issues immediately. Each General Counselor at Camp StarQuest must have experience or a passion for the performing arts – theater, dance, voice, etc.. along with previous experience or a strong desire of working with children. Additionally, the General Counselor will provide a high-quality experience for each camper focusing on being a positive role model that is enthusiastic, team orientated, caring, dependable, fair and fun!
