TITLE: Specialist

SUPERVISOR: Specialist Director

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Specialists are responsible for the development and implementation of curriculum for their area of specialty program at camp. They will provide high–quality day camping activities for children 5 – 12 years old. An excellent knowledge of policies, procedures, activities, programs, and children as they relate to the camping program is essential to this position. The best candidate for the position will have an appreciation and understanding of outdoor activities, education, and program delivery. Specialists should be able to work under pressure and coordinate many different tasks at once.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBLITIES:

Plan, coordinate and implement a comprehensive and progressive curriculum. Work with each group in camp to ensure a high-quality program.

Outline specialty area programs for the week, specifying activities for each age group and skills to be taught at an appropriate developmental level. Responsible for recording planning on weekly lesson plan form.

Serve as a lead resource to staff for program ideas and development. Instruct staff and campers on a daily basis.

Responsible for the maintenance of specific specialty space and equipment. Keeping inventory of equipment and order of area.

Assist with general camp operating and program functions as requested. This may include special event planning, program area back-ups, and field trip chaperone.

Attend all staff training sessions and staff meetings as directed by your supervisor.

Refer concerns to supervisor, as necessary.

Be responsible for knowing, understanding, and executing ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program.

Take part in mid-summer and post-summer evaluations with your supervisor.

Adhere to all parts of the Camp Olami policies and procedures.

Perform any other program and administrative responsibilities as assigned by supervisor or Camp Director.

Be conscious of and protect the health, safety, and welfare of all campers in any area or programs at camp.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of 18 years of age or completed one year of college.

Previous experience or college course works in specialty area.

Self-motivated to give direction, perform duties and develop new program ideas.

A willingness to work with the Sabes JCC goals and Camp Olami objectives.

Experience working with children.
