About Us

iUrban Teen (iUT) is a nationally recognized program dedicated to bringing career-focused education to historically and systemically excluded teens ages 12 to 18. Youth receive hands-on exposure to a variety of careers and civic engagement opportunities that step them outside of their current boundaries. Our program goals are to increase awareness and knowledge of STEM+A careers and training, to build confidence and critical thinking, to provide mentorship and internship opportunities and to create a collaborative learning model for youth.



We are looking to expand our pool of Chess Instructors for our afterschool and weekend programs.



Responsibilities:

Adapt to changes, delays, or unexpected events to ensure the continuance/continuity of the program.

Use and demonstrate problem solving, critical thinking, perseverance, and patience with students in the program.

Ensure the safety and well-being of the students in the program at all times.

Create an open and positive learning environment that encourages students to ask questions and to be active participants.

Qualifications:

A strong knowledge of the game of chess in order to instruct novice & intermediate chess players:

Rules of the game (address system, basic piece movements, how to win, notation, etc)

The 3 stages of the game (opening, middle and end game)

Basic Opening principles, initial middle game tactics, and fundamental endgame techniques

Intermediate principles (opening, defense and attack)

Experienced facilitator with the ability to motivate, direct, and instruct students 11 – 18 years old, of various abilities, in mixed age group settings.

Skilled in demonstrating and explaining process steps clearly and with patience to 11-18 year olds, of various abilities, in mixed age group settings.

Ability to pass criminal background check.

Willing to sign and abide by iUT contract agreements, including Non-Disclosure Agreement and use of copyrighted curriculum developed by iUT.

Preferred Experience

Previous experience teaching the game of chess to youth

Demonstrated experience working with BIPOC students and communities, youth with developmental delays and disabilities, and foster care youth.



About this position:

Limited duration position.

No health/medical benefits.

$25 per hour.
