About us

SCC is a nonprofit organization located in the small rural town of Groveland, CA. The SCC mission is to provide health, recreation, social interaction, and lifelong learning experiences in a multigenerational setting to benefit active adults over the age of 55. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization governed by a board of directors composed of volunteers from our community. Revenue is derived mostly from generous donations by community members and through grants and other fundraising activities. Other departments and services within SCC are The Little House, WHEELS, and Village on the Hill. WAVE and Wheels provide transportation services to members for medical and other appointments, shopping and to social activities in and around Groveland, Big Oak, as well as Sonora and Modesto. Village on the Hill provides services such as simple household tasks including running errands, changing light bulbs, watering plants, and transporting trash. Volunteers also make daily safety phone calls, walks around the neighborhood, and friendly visits.

Purpose and Description of Position:

The WAVE Bus driver provides safe, courteous, and on schedule transportation to Groveland residents to Sonora and Modesto.

Work Hours:

The WAVE Bus Driver is an hourly position. This position will consistently work 7 hours per day, one to two days per week and will be expected to cover when the other driver is sick or needs vacation time. Vacation time will be scheduled ahead and agreed upon by all parties. Weekend availability is occasional and optional.

Responsibilities and Duties

- Inspect vehicle to ensure that it is in operable condition.
- Drive SCC vehicle to and from various locations, following a pre-established schedule and route. Adjust route as needed.
- Maintain driver log listing passenger name, scheduled stop arrival and departure times, mileage and other information as requested for each trip.
- Communicate passenger welfare concerns to president or manager.
- At a minimum, clean and disinfect interior of vehicle before first passenger boards, mid-day, and after last passenger disembarks.
- Fuels vehicle as needed.
- Participate in in-service training to update skills and learn techniques for working with various passengers.
- Represent SCC with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.

Qualifications and Skills:

- Valid California State issue driver�s license.
- Clean driving record. Must maintain ability to drive legally.
- Clean drug test.
- Ability to lift 30 pounds without difficulty.
- Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations for operating a motor vehicle in the state of California.
- Basic knowledge of Tuolumne County and Modesto area geography.
- Have a mobile phone while transporting riders and an email address for general communication.
- Ability to work without close supervision in standard work situations.
- Understanding of techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio economic, ethnic, and cultural, backgrounds as well as people with disabilities and the elderly.
- First Aid, CPR and elder abuse training/certification within (3) months of date of employment.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.

On the job training is provided with continued support, as needed.
