CAMP/AFTER SCHOOL DIRECTOR
PART-TIME/SEASONAL

Starts at $16.25 per hour

JOB DESCRIPTION
DESCRIPTION:
Under supervision of the Recreation Coordinator or their designee, performs recreational duties and enforces all rules and regulations pertaining to the safety of the participants in the District’s programs. May also assist with the supervision and instruction of, including, but not limited to sports, special interest programs and classes, special events, the after-school program, and camps. Some morning, evening and weekends required. Will supervise subordinate staff, Jr. Counselors, and volunteers.

Examples of Duties:
• Coordinate pre-camp planning of camp activities and schedules.
• Coordinate with Day Camp staff application screening, interviews, work schedules and evaluations.
• Coordinate staff and CIT Trainings
• Supervise and monitor staff and camp participants
• Implement all camp activities.
• Interface daily with children, parents, camp staff, and volunteers.
• Observe necessary precautions to ensure the safety of activity and program participants; monitor and inspect assigned facilities for needed maintenance.
• Enforce applicable rules and regulations; provide appropriate disciplinary measures as needed.

Preferred Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
• Ability to get in front of large group of participants and perform in a group setting.
• Ability to professionally assist with organizing and participating in a variety of activities.
• Knowledge of organized games and craft projects, and ability to lead them.
• Ability to maintain a high level of enthusiasm and represent a positive role model to the campers.
• Ability to work with campers exhibiting behavior challenges, special needs, or reluctance to participate.
• Ability to work in a team setting, to create a positive work environment
• Ability to effectively supervise staff and volunteers.
• Ability to work with and take direction from Recreation Coordinator.

Physical Demands:
• Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment. This position shall be exposed to those conditions normally encountered in an indoor and outdoor environment.
• Physical demands are moderate, consisting primarily of sitting, standing, walking, and some lifting and moving of tables, chairs, and equipment.
• You must be able to see and hear in the normal range, with or without correction, and communicate verbally and in written form with great facility, and must be able to be understood.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
• Emotional/Psychological: frequent public and/or coworker contact; ability to remain calm in emergency situations; occasionally works alone.
• You must have the stamina to work long hours and overtime, if assigned and must be willing to work an irregular schedule, which may include weekends, holidays, evenings, and/or varying shifts, and respond to emergencies after regular working hours.

Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in area of special events, recreation, leisure studies or a related field.

Experience:
At least three years of increasingly responsible experience working in a youth specialized recreation program or comparable experience (i.e. non-profit, private camp, school)
License or Certificate:
Possession of a Standard First Aid Certificate (Infant, Child & Adult) required with in three months of employment.
Possession of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate/AED (Infant, Child & Adult) required with in first three months of employment.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must pass a Department of Justice background check.
