Job summary
� This position is part of a team that offers food assistance to our neighbors experiencing food insecurity. The Part Time Market Clerk supports the daily distribution of food at The Market through direct interactions with the public.
Summary of essential job functions
� Stocks shelves, and organizes food displays, adjusting to inventory constraints.
� Keeps storage room, walk-in refrigerator, standalone freezer, food display and distribution area clean, sanitary, safe, and free from pests.
� Ensures cleanliness of floors and general areas inside the market and lobby area.
� Creates a positive environment for volunteers who are supporting these activities.
� Ensures that inventory and weights are taken properly at the market.
� Communicates with supervisor (Distibution Manager) for inventory needs.
� Assists with food distribution at The Market during market hours.
� Records food inventory weekly and communicates with Distribution Manager to keep shelves stocked accordingly.
� Ensures that excellent customer centered services are provided to program participants and that participants are always treated with respect and kindness.
� Leads and assigns volunteers with different responsibilities.
� Ensures new volunteer agreements are signed.
� Ensures volunteers sign-in and sign-out.
� Supports Logistics with other duties as assigned
Minimum requirements
� Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to treat all participants with dignity and manage difficult and/or challenging participants with polite respect
� Experience in a fast-paced, high-energy environment such as restaurant or food industry, social service, or retail
� Able to multi-task effectively and handle a wide variety of diverse and concurrent responsibilities
� Excellent logistical and organizational skills
� Fluency in Spanish and English is preferred
� Position involves work hours in the evening and on the first Saturday of the month
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Environmental Conditions
While picking up and distributing food, the employee may be exposed to a wide array of environmental conditions including extreme heat and cold, rain, snow and ice. The employee must be able to work in these conditions for up to 3 hours at a time.
