The Gardner School of Arts and Sciences is seeking a part-time janitor/maintenance person to join our community of learners!
The position is part-time and hourly, approximately 20-25 hours per week. Specific working hours are negotiable; ideally, we are looking for someone who can overlap part of our school day but also do the majority of their work after school hours, including weekends. Example hours could include 4pm – 9pm or 4am- 9am, but we are flexible as long as the school is cleaned prior to each school day! Pay begins at $17-18/hour, DOE. Benefits are available after successful completion of a 90 day introductory period.
Due to the nature of this job, we can not accept anyone that is unable to pass a full criminal background check, including fingerprints.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Dumping trash and recycling for all classrooms and common areas nightly, plus outdoor trash once a week.
Vacuuming and mopping classrooms, hallways, and administrative areas.
Cleaning classroom sinks and surrounding areas.
Cleaning several restrooms daily, and one house kitchen weekly.
Sanitizing high-touch surfaces like doorknobs and light switches.
Cleaning windowsills and dusting flat surfaces.
Leaf-blowing, pressure washing, washing windows, cleaning baseboards, and other (quarterly - annual) upkeep.
Changing lightbulbs, paper towels, soap, and other consumables.
Light maintenance such as hanging items on the walls, moving furniture, and minor repairs.
General cleaning and upkeep are needed by an active school with busy students!
The successful candidate will have:
A strong sense of ownership and pride in their work and the appearance of our school. We are seeking a community member for the long-term!
Good verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to get along with a diverse population.
Excellent self- and time-management skills, as this position will be working largely alone with a list of daily duties.
Basic math and reading skills for reviewing instructions and mixing cleaning formulas, and the ability to help the school find and utilize safer cleaning alternatives and eco-friendly substitutes.
