Position: Executive Director, Southeast Como Improvement Association (SECIA)
Hours and Compensation: Part-time at 0.6-0.8 FTE (24-32 hours/week), $22-25/hour

The Southeast Como Improvement Association (SECIA) is seeking a part-time Executive Director to maintain the Southeast Como neighborhood office operations, coordinate work with the board, staff, and interns, support neighborhood volunteer committees, help implement community projects, and assist in strategic planning. This position is primarily in-office with work-from-home flexibility.

The Southeast Como Neighborhood is one of three Minneapolis neighborhoods that constitute the University of Minnesota District. Como is a vibrant mix of UMN students, renters, homeowners, and families. The neighborhood features Van Cleve park and six community gardens. It offers convenient access to both Twin Cities campuses, along with downtown and the Northeast Minneapolis neighborhoods.

Executive Director Job Responsibilities:

Administrative Functions

Financial and Risk Management: coordinate with the bookkeeper, pay bills, track invoices, review reports, manage contracts, draft budgets, review insurance, file annual reports with the IRS, MN Revenue, and the Secretary of State.

Fundraising: write grants, manage existing city funding programs and other grant deliverables and reporting, encourage individual giving, and seek creative ways to diversify the organization’s funding sources.
Community Correspondence: monitor and respond to emails, phone, and print mail. Send communications as needed.

Filing and Data Management: establish and maintain systems for record keeping.

Board and Committee Support: attend meetings, prepare agendas and supporting materials, post notices and minutes, manage correspondence, plan new member orientation, track elections, coordinate and recruit volunteers, etc. Active committees include Executive, Land Use, Environment, and Reimagining SECIA &
Equity Work Group.

Staff Support: delegate tasks and support staff in their work, providing mentorship and guidance.
Policies: draft and follow organizational policies, seeking feedback and input from the board and other stakeholders.

Community Engagement Functions

Equitable Engagement: Foster an inclusive and welcoming organization. Work towards building an increasingly representative organization through continued development and implementation of the Equitable Engagement Plan to identify strategies to overcome barriers to full inclusion and empowerment of historically underrepresented communities.

Communications: write and publish an electronic newsletter, maintain presence on social media, print and deliver flyers, maintain the website, and utilize other creative communications tools to keep people informed.
Partnerships: build partnerships with residents, alliances, neighborhood interest groups, landowners developers, parks, and other community and neighborhood groups to leverage our limited resources and keep SE Como residents informed and connected.

Programming: work with the board of directors, volunteers, and students to plan one large (800-1000 people) and several smaller community-based events and programs annually.

Necessary Skills:
Communication:
Ability to write and speak effectively, including the facilitation of public presentations and meetings.
Ability to interface and connect with a diverse group of people.
Experience with social media and newsletters.
Flexibility:
Work with a diverse group of people with empathy, keeping in mind the neighborhood’s goals.
Work some flexible hours including evenings and weekends as needed.
Experience:
Knowledgeable about nonprofit organizations, community organizing, and Minneapolis neighborhood organizations or a willingness to learn.
Education in communications, public policy, finance, management or an equivalent of three years of experience in management, neighborhood organizations, nonprofits, or similar work preferred.
Passion:
Drive to build lasting relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders.
Build and sustain an inclusive culture and environment within the organization and the neighborhood.
