Background
At La Cocina VA, we believe that by using the power of food we can generate opportunities for social and economic change. We are a nonprofit organization providing culinary job training and food assistance to residents of low-income communities, and catering services to the public and private sector. With our recent move to a new facility, we have also added services through our Small Business Incubator, Cafe, and Recreational Cooking Program. These revenue generators help us continue impacting the communities we serve in unique and sustainable ways.
Cook Profile
The Cook is someone who has experience working in a fast-paced culinary preparation setting. They understand how to read recipes and can follow them accurately while working with a team. The Cook also has front of house experience and can assist the Café operations by preparing menu items and ensuring a great experience for each guest as needed. This professional is adept in collaborating to complete tasks identified by the Chef and Lead Cook within areas of the Cafe, Catering Company, and Food Assistance Program.
Cook Duties and Responsibilities
Back of House
? Reads recipes and follows them to the organization’s standards.
? Collaborates with colleagues to accomplish tasks.
? Maintains a clean kitchen before, during, and after use.
Front of House
? Assists the Cashier and Barista in serving guests by warming and plating food orders as needed.
Food Assistance Program
? Demonstrates cooking techniques to volunteers.
? Possesses a friendly and accommodating demeanor to assist kitchen volunteers as needed.
Cook Qualifications
? No less than 1 year of experience as a cook
? Bilingual (English & Spanish) desired but not required
