Camp Counselor
Job Description:
• The Darien Park District is looking for summer camp counselors! We have 4 different camps ages ranging from 3-13.
• Sunshine Camp and Iwannahavefun Camp Counselors work with 3–5-year-olds
• Super Stars Counselors work with 6–8-year-olds
• Fun 4 All Counselors work with 9–13-year-olds
• We are looking for half-day and full day camp counselors.
• Camp runs for 10 weeks from June 5th- August 11th
• All counselors are required to attend camp training the week prior to camp.
Benefits:
• Starting pay $13/ per hour
• July 3rd and 4th OFF
• We provide flexible work schedules; however consistent schedules are a preference.
Qualifications:
• 16 or older
• Must pass a drug screening test upon hire
• Strong problem-solving skills, communication skills, and leadership skills
• Can confidently lead groups of children through all camp activities
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
• Prior experience working with children such as babysitting/ nannying
• Must possess CPR and First Aid certification, or become certified within 1 month of being hired (free training provided by the Park District if needed)
Responsibilities:
• Counselors supervise children through all camp activities.
• Counselors lead crafts, activities, and other camp activities.
• Counselors should be energic, responsible, organized, level-headed, flexible, and possess the ability to keep calm in a variety of situations
• Understand, communicate, and assist in enforcing camp and park district rules or polices
• Must be able to work in outdoor weather conditions
• The role of the counselor is to participate, build relationships, and have fun while ensuring the physical and emotional safety of every child.
• Cooperate with fellow counselors and camp director.
• Communicate with guardians about daily activities and camper progress.
• Implement daily schedule and activities to keep kids excited, safe, and engaged
• Assist in addressing camper behavior and disciplinary issues.
