Position Summary:

Plans and directs medically approved therapeutic Wilderness programs at the Village. Organizes activities according to children’s capabilities, needs, and interests. Conducts programs including symptom management, basic conversation skills, outdoor activity, and community re-entry. Prepares reports for physicians describing individual symptoms and reactions to the therapeutic program. Conducts activity therapy assessment of a children’s strengths and needs, and recommends therapeutic activity. Documents progress on each child. Carries a caseload of 3-4 clients.

Clinical Administration

In conjunction with the treatment team develops timely, individualized, comprehensive Needs and Services Treatment Plans for all cases assigned, in accordance with policies and procedures. Completes reviews of Master Treatment Plans on a regular basis.
Develops and maintains professional working relationships with all necessary community agencies and services in order to fully implement the Treatment Plan.
Accesses and coordinates all clinical services available in order to fully implement the Treatment Plan.
Communicates clearly and regularly in both written and oral forms to the treatment team regarding pertinent case material, special therapeutic needs, family relationships, etc.
Provides advocacy and clinical insight on assigned cases in all staffing or meetings pertaining to each case; such as Treatment Planning meetings, IEP meetings, Administrative Case Reviews and Team Meetings.
Completes timely documentation in the Clinical Record of all services rendered in accordance with policies and procedures
Responds to all community requests for information (Release of Information, court appearances, etc.) in a timely, professional and confidential manner.
Provides consultation to the Intake Coordinator for evaluation of new placements and communicates discharges in a timely fashion.
Actively creates and maintains discharge plans (commencing at the time of admission), that are reviewed and revised as needed to insure that the client is served in the least restrictive environment possible.
Completes or makes arrangements for the completion of assessment tools to assist in the diagnostic formulation of each resident assigned to caseload.

Care Delivery

Provides individual, family, group therapy and Parent Outreach services in accordance with each individualized treatment plan per the Wilderness Program to include:

Plans and directs medically approved outdoor behavioral health programs for residents
Organizes activities according to residents’ capabilities, needs, and interests
Conducts wilderness programs involving extended back-country travel and wilderness living experiences long enough to allow for clinical assessment, establishment of treatment goals, and a reasonable course of treatment not to exceed the productive impact of the experience to include:
Active and direct use of residents’ participation and responsibility in their therapeutic process,
Continuous group-living and regular formal group therapy sessions to foster teamwork and social interactions (excluding solo experiences),
Individual therapy sessions, which may be supported by the inclusion of family therapy,
Adventure experiences utilized to appropriately enhance treatment by fostering the development of eustress (i.e., the positive use of stress) as a beneficial element in the therapeutic experience,
The use of nature in reality as well as a metaphor within the therapeutic process,
Prepares reports for residents’ physicians describing individual resident symptoms and reactions to therapeutic programs
Facilitates Child and Family Team Meetings for their assigned caseload

Requirements

Education/Experience/Knowledge/Understanding

Master's degree in mental health, social work or related field
Current MFT or CSW license
Certification in Equine Therapy program
Minimum of one year of experience working with children in a residential treatment program.
Licensed interns will be considered with 3-years of experience working with children in a residential treatment program
Possess a valid unrestricted driver license
Knowledgeable/trained/certified in areas such as Outdoor Leadership, and other related treatment certifications
Must be 21 years of age or older


Skills

Strong verbal, written, and active listening communication skills to include communicating clearly, effectively, tactfully, and patiently with a diverse population
Strong interpersonal skills and demeanor with the ability to build rapport and garner trust with others
Proficient in the use of a PC; in a Windows environment; in the use of the Internet; and in the use of MS Office Applications such as Outlook, Word and Excel


Abilities

Ability to apply a strong ethic of care and support throughout the therapeutic experience
ability establish and maintain healthy boundaries with the people they help in treatment
Ability to apply strong critical thinking skills
Ability to train participants in camping, hiking, fishing, and other outdoor activities
Ability to pass a full three-tier background clearance
Ability to drive large vehicles and pull trailers for transporting camping gear

Physical Demands

Ability to frequently stand, see, hear, speak, and be physically flexible; occasionally sits walk, stoop, lift up to 50 lbs, carry, run and drive; and at times may bend, climb, squat, kneel, push/pull
Ability to spend 90% of time outdoors, withstand moderate noise levels including voice levels 90% of the time, extreme heat up to 111 degrees; wind, rain cold weather; to operate household appliances; to drive an automobile; occasionally work alone; work with others 90% of the time
Employees may be exposed to children who may ask inappropriate personal questions, display socially unacceptable personal behaviors, insult your physical appearance, age, sex, and race, use profanity, sexually explicit phrases, exhibit defiance, dishonesty, threats, accusations, and theft, assaultive behaviors and self-destructive behaviors.
