JOB DESCRIPTION Project Engineer-Temple Terrace

The Project Engineer includes interfacing with the project owner or agent, scheduling crews and subcontractors, communicating to the Sales/Marketing Estimators any claims and determining “as built” quantities of work performed, properly invoicing for work completed, and is responsible for building the project within the estimated budget.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Project Engineer directly reports to and is accountable to the Project Manager & Area Manager.

REQUIREMENTS:
A. EDUCATION
Minimum qualifications are graduation from an accredited university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management or a related field and three years experience in construction management, or two years of college and five years of experience in construction supervision.

B. LICENSING/REGISTRATIONS
OSHA Certification, CPPR training, CQC training
Preferred: Traffic Control Supervisor Certification
Asphalt Paving Level 1 & 2

C. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
1. Leadership and negotiating skills.
2. The uses of conversational, analytical and observational skills, which demonstrate an ability to organize, control and manage all areas of field operations for the road construction industry.
3. Knowledge of materials, equipment, methods and techniques used in road construction.
4. Knowledge of possible defects and faults in work and of stages where such faults and defects are most readily ascertained.
5. Ability to understand and interpret terms and specifications of contracts.
6. Ability to conduct effective inspections in determining contract compliance.
7. Ability to calculate figures and mathematical concepts.
8. Knowledge of construction lien laws.
9. Computer Use Viewpoint, Excel, Word, Primavera P3

D. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Engineer’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Pay quantities and invoicing.
2. Calculate monthly earned over billed.
3. Analyze balanced bid distributions.
4. Approve job charges; cost, phase, cost type (vendors, supplies, asphalt, subs, payroll).
5. Document and process back charges.
6. Maintain project schedule: Overall and immediate (2-week).
7. Initiate and respond to project correspondence.
8. Monitor work plan/ budget compliance.
9. Plan daily work plan with project superintendent.
10. Calculate and monitor production budgets.
11. Report out of tolerance budget indicators.
12. Review all QC and test results.
13. Organize and lead weekly job progress meetings.
14. Review and monitor engineer’s weekly reports and inspector’s daily reports.
15. Schedule subcontractors and process subcontractor weekly progress reports.

E. SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL
1. Enforce all rules listed in the Ajax employee handbook.
2. Insure all Ajax quality standards are met.
3. Insure adherence to all federal, state, local and Ajax Safety and Environmental rules and regulations.

F. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Field operation, asphalt plants, lab and office environment.
Ability to work days, nights and weekends as required.

G. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The essential functions of this position includes sitting, standing, walking, climbing, reaching, bending, trunk movements, lifting minimum of 45 lbs., carrying, pushing/pulling, low level work, dexterity of hands and fingers, seeing, hearing and talking.

5. Performing such other duties as may be required.
