Preschool Director

The Preschool Director of the Wasatch Presbyterian Preschool shall lead a program promoting the
intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and social growth of children, using NAEYC standards and Utah
State Child Care Licensing rules as guiding frameworks for implementing developmentally
appropriate curriculum within a safe, positive environment. The Director shall oversee and provide
support and professional development opportunities to all teachers, as well as all administrative
staff of the preschool.

The Preschool Director shall facilitate the Preschool serving as a mission of the church by working
collaboratively and proactively with the Preschool Advisory Board, in accordance with the terms
of the Board charter.

The position of Preschool Director is a full-time, exempt, salaried position with an assumed
on-campus presence during school hours over the program year, September-May, as well as a
timely commitment to fulfill and maintain all operational duties over the summer months,
June-August, as necessary.

Hours & Compensation

? Hours: 40 hrs/week, August-May
? Benefits: Medical and retirement benefits negotiable
? Compensation: $50,000 annually
? Personal days: 10 days during the program year, school breaks that follow the Salt Lake
School District calendar

Programming
Develop and implement a program of quality education for the preschool by:
? Developing and presenting policies and procedures for approval by the Preschool Advisory
Board which are in keeping with the philosophy of the program, the mission of the church,
and in accordance with NAEYC Accreditation and State Licensing requirements
? Completing all requirements for maintaining accreditation and licensing through the
National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the Utah State
Office of Child Care Licensing (CCL), including regular progress reports to the Preschool
Advisory Board
? Researching and recommending curriculum for use in the classroom and supervising the
implementation of the adopted curriculum
? Hiring new teachers and staff in accordance with the Wasatch Presbyterian Preschool
Hiring and Contract Renewal Policy
? Establishing and implementing an registration/enrollment policy that is transparent and
equitable
? Establishing and implementing a class placement process that is transparent and equitable
? Establishing and implementing a process for teacher assignments that is transparent and
equitable, and incorporates feedback from teachers and families
? Providing training for all teachers and staff on NAEYC Accreditation and state licensing
rules, the goals and philosophy of the program, emergency health and safety procedures,
special needs of the children, guidance and classroom management techniques, and
expectations for ethical conduct
? Leading regular staff meetings with preschool staff and teachers, including soliciting
agenda items from teachers and staff
? Providing and soliciting feedback on a regular basis from staff, teachers, Preschool
Advisory Board members, and families on potential areas for growth and improvement
? As needed, arbitrate grievances using conflict resolution in collaboration with the
Pastor/Head of Staff, Preschool Advisory Board, and Church Session
? Leading/coordinating fundraiser as appropriate
? Leading/coordinating marketing as needed

Administrative
Establish and maintain the Preschool as an orderly business operation by:
? Developing and managing an annual operational budget, to be approved by the Preschool
Advisory Board prior to the start of the school year
? Overseeing all purchasing and expenses in accordance with the budget
? Ensuring for transparency in all business transactions
? Arranging for a yearly audit of accounting records
? Scheduling important dates for the upcoming program year (immunization clinics,
vision/hearing screenings, picture days, etc.) and designing a yearly calendar to be
approved by the Preschool Advisory Board each spring
? Maintaining registration, enrollment, health, and attendance records for all children,
utilizing child care software where appropriate and feasible
? Maintaining additional records concerning each child as necessary
? Supervising the administrative staff of the preschool including:
o Maintaining updated position descriptions,
o Providing feedback, guidance, and oversight on their responsibilities
o Providing support and leadership where needed
o Ensuring for high levels of customer service to families
o Establishing and maintaining a system where issues can be properly vetted
? Ensuring consistent and clear communication through daily in-person/phone interactions
and reliable use of email, child care software, and other media
? Working collaboratively with the Building Manager and custodial staff where appropriate
? Maintaining an inventory of preschool supplies, including all supply closets, playground
equipment and toys, and gym closet equipment and toys
? Overseeing/coordinating maintenance to playground/gym equipment, including
permanent play structure and revolving playground/gym toys, etc.
? Managing the information technology (IT) needs of the preschool
Relational
Facilitate collaborative relationships between the preschool, the church, and community at large by:
? Fostering a positive and strong relationship between the preschool and the church by:
o Regularly communicating with the Pastor/Head of Staff and Children’s Ministry
Director, and as appropriate the Office Manager, Building Manager, and Preschool
Advisory Board
o Serving as a reliable and constructive communicator between the preschool
teachers and staff and the Preschool Advisory Board
o Understanding and demonstrating support for the various other missions and
programs of the church
o As desired or needed, utilizing other resources and persons from the church
community
? Representing the preschool and the church in the community by:
o Interacting with other educational leaders in the area to stay informed and updated
on educational matters
o Understanding and positively conveying to families and others in the community
the mission and culture of the church and the preschool

Qualifications
? Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Early Childhood or Education
? Familiarity with the culture and programs of Wasatch Presbyterian Church, as well as the
Presbyterian Church USA
? Ability to train, lead, and evaluate teachers and administrative staff
? Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
? Ability to show initiative in problem solving and be open to new ideas
? Ability to create a welcoming, positive school environment by:
o Being friendly, warm and affectionate with families
o Being actively and warmly engaged with children
? Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software as appropriate, including Procare
Management Software, Google Workspace, MS Word, MS Excel, digital photo
management, Dropbox file sharing, current social media platforms, etc.
