Alaska Nature Tours is a small tour business in the beautiful coastal community of
Haines situated at the north end of Alaska�s Inside Passage, 70 miles north of the state
capital, Juneau. Outside Magazine listed Haines as one of the twenty new dream towns
and adventure hideouts (best places to live and play) in the US. ANT is the original eco-tour
company in Southeast Alaska established in 1985. Our staff of personable Naturalist
Guides, with extensive backgrounds in natural history, lead a variety of low impact,
informative wildlife tours, nature walks, and hiking adventures. Cruise line clients and
independent travelers are the bulk of the summer business from May through September.
We operate a year-round adventure gear store, plus guide winter photo expeditions into
the world-famous Alaska Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, host to the greatest gathering of bald
eagles in the world
Primary Duties of Job:
* Provide guided interpretation on bus/walking tours and hiking excursions
* Know tour subjects (six different ecosystems, flora, fauna, geology, native history, etc)
* Convey knowledge & enthusiasm for tour content
* Complete safety, and guide training, including CPR / first aid certification
* Provide for the safety and enjoyment of all clients
* Talley and submit work hours each pay period
* Log wildlife sighting notes into journal
* Attend staff meetings
* Collect, haul and maintain tour equipment (scopes, binoculars, books, maps, photos)
Secondary Duties:
* Promote tour company and contribute ideas for promotional material
* Research and contribute new material for tour script and guiding techniques
* Help to maintain tour trails and venue destinations
Training and Experience:
College degree in science field or at least two years guiding tours, or teaching, or field work,
or study in related subjects. This position requires a solid knowledge of local flora & fauna
in numerous ecosystems. Guides need excellent communication skills, attention to detail, punctual, and dependable.
Full or part time shifts, housing option. Good pay + tips. Couples/Friends a plus.
