Boulder Valley Center for Dermatology is currently seeking a Medical Assistant to join the Practice. Ideal candidates for this important position are bright college graduates with a degree in Science. Many of our Medical Assistants have used their time with us to gain valuable work experience that has helped them to launch successfully into medical school, physician assistant programs and nursing school. As a BVCD Medical Assistant, you can gain valuable experience in our thriving medical practice.

Essential Functions

Perform clinic administrative duties, including but not limited to, answering incoming telephone calls, obtaining and/or verifying patient information, patient check in/out, coordinate and facilitate accurate patient appointment
Obtain patient medical history, vital signs, chart preparation, medication dosage and frequency, patient allergens, and assist with medical examinations
Maintain accurate and strict confidentiality of patient information in electronic and/or manual systems as established by the appropriate protocols, regulations, and policies
Document all aspects of the patient encounter on an electronic medical record system.
Perform routine specialized procedures under established protocols
Perform medical equipment sterilization and prepare surgical instruments as needed
Educates and advises patients on specified medical issues within established parameters
Provide instructions and directions to patients regarding diagnostic tests, procedures and treatments
Prepare patients for biopsies and surgeries and assist with surgeries and any physician needs
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Competencies

Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories.
Knowledge of patient evaluation and triage procedures.
Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
Knowledge of outpatient clinical administrative procedures.
Knowledge safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.
Knowledge of inventory management practices.
Must be comfortable with mainstream computer technology and software
Ability to educate patients and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
Ability to learn quickly and follow direction in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work independently while maintaining a friendly demeanor towards others
Ability to perform standard clinical procedures according to established protocols.
Ability to maintain calendars and schedule appointments.
Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
Ability to perform routine invasive procedures, such as subcutaneous injections
Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment. Work is performed in an interior medical/clinical environment. Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training.
Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
Travel

This position requires travel to satellite offices, an unexpired driver’s license and reliable transportation is required. The Lafayette and Boulder are our main locations. The Brighton location is maybe one day per week.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in related field
Strong customer service skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Excellent multi-tasking skills
This is a great experience for pre-Med or pre-PA candidates.
Satisfactory passing of a post-offer, pre-employment criminal background check.

Compensation: $18.50 -$23.00 per hour.

Schedule: Full-Time. 4 days a week, 10 hour shifts between 7:45am - 6:00pm. Days will vary and position requires employee to be available Monday-Friday. 1-2 Saturdays per month working from 8:00am - 1:00pm are required.
