Job description
Position Title: Laboratory Technologist
Reports To: Physician/General Manager/Laboratory Director

Primary Function:
The Laboratory Technologist is responsible for accurately and efficiently processing samples using laboratory equipment and quickly reporting any problems to management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
� Collects, prepares and evaluates patient specimens for analysis and perform technical procedures with accuracy and precision, meeting the standards of all accrediting/regulatory agencies in a timely manner
� Operate laboratory instruments and equipment and perform equipment maintenance according to the laboratory�s standard operating procedures
� Recognizes unusual patient results and identifies problems in analytical procedures/systems; responds with appropriate investigation and/or corrective action
� Troubleshoots assays and equipment, which fail to perform adequately
� Maintains a CLIA compliant quality management plan
� Creates and maintains SOPs
� Observes established safety guidelines and maintains cleanliness of the laboratory
� Keep a meticulous and organized record of specimens, tests, instrument logs, and technical analyses
� Maintain stringent standards for quality, identifying any issues, which might adversely impact the quality of test results and/or employee safety, and communicating these to the appropriate management representatives as necessary for resolution
� Participates in activities required to support all necessary licensure for the clinical laboratory, including quality management functions and on-site inspections of the laboratory.
� Responsible for maintaining updated understanding and knowledge of the methods employed in the laboratory and the use of the resulting information by physicians through continuing education activities.
� Consult with management and personnel on better operational procedures to improve overall efficiency and product yields.
� Accurately document and maintain all records for equipment and instruments
� Support the administrative functions of the lab as required
� All other reasonable duties, as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, Mental Abilities Requirements
� Proficiency in MS Office programs, quality control applications, word processing, specifically spreadsheets
� Multitask and coordinate multiple projects/ assignments simultaneously and completing assigned tasks accurately and on a timely basis
� Ability to adapt in a constantly changing environment and the ability to work under tight deadlines
� High level of accuracy is required with a special attention to detail
� Ability to analyze and solve basic issues
� Ability to effectively communicate technical information to technical and non-technical audiences; ability to proactively communicate consistently, clearly, and honestly
� Ability to take initiative, to maintain confidentiality, to meet deadlines, and to work in a team environment
Knowledge Needed
� Experience working with RT-PCR (qPCR) in a CLIA or CAP clinical laboratory required
� Knowledge of basic clinical laboratory skills
� Knowledge of occupational safety and health rules and regulations
� Demonstrates exceptional understanding of the elements that support high quality work processes, training and quality assurance in molecular biology laboratories
� Prior experience in Quality required with knowledge of CLIA regulations and CAP requirements
Education and Certification/Experience Requirements
� Bachelor�s degree in science required, with minimum 3 years of related experiences in a CLIA laboratory, demonstrating a high level of competency when assisting in the analytical sample processing steps and all other supporting functions
� Or, Master�s degree in science, with minimum 2 years of related experiences in a CLIA laboratory, demonstrating a high level of competency when assisting in the analytical sample processing steps and all other supporting functions
Certifications
Physical Requirements:
� Must be able to sit or stand for up to 8 hours per day.
� Occasionally required to lift up to 20 lbs.
� Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach and move about facilities.
Work Environment:
Most work will be performed in the lab.
Office Environment -
� Fully equipped break room and bathrooms.
Lab Environment -
� Noise levels vary based on flow of business
� Most floors are tile or concrete - individuals may stand for extended periods on these surfaces
Tools and Technology:
� Desktop computer and laptop
� Scanners and printers
Hazards:
� Work is performed in an medical practice office environment, full manual dexterity and visual acuity required. However, access to the laboratory may be necessary and therefore employee may be exposed to potential physical harm from hazardous chemicals, infectious diseases, blood-borne pathogens, toxic materials, toxic gases, electrical hazards, dangerous tools and equipment.
Job Type: Part-time with full-time potential to include higher salary and full benefits.

� Monday to Friday (four day work week after six months)

License/Certification:
� Clinical Laboratory Technologist License (Preferred)
