Teacher for Infants & Toddlers starting at $18/hr

Little Tree in N. Portland is hiring a full-time infant/toddler educator. Benefits: PTO and a monthly $250 healthcare stipend after 90 days.

Who we are: We offer care from 8am-5pm for 10 children per day between the ages of 4 months to 3 years. We are an in-home Certified Family Childcare school in the Boise-Eliot neighborhood.

Little Tree Preschool draws on Emergent curriculum and RIE and Montessori practices. We are made up of early childhood educators with passions in diverse areas who are dedicated to making preschool a cozy, welcoming environment for our community. We believe in the power of children�s exploration and understanding of the world around them and we do our best to cultivate children�s natural curiosity through inquiry-based, hands-on learning. We value children teaching us as much as we teach them and are devoted to respecting children as co-learners. Spending time outdoors is also integral to our program. Children play outdoors every day, rain or shine, regardless of age and the older toddlers help out with gardening.

Who we're looking for: You�ll fit right in at Little Tree if you love playing and learning alongside children, have the desire to develop strong bonds with children, families and coworkers and communicate openly and honestly. We are a small, tight-knit community and want to work with someone who feels empowered to be an active voice and bring your own interests into your teaching practice. Our ideal candidate is a strong, calm, stable presence in the classroom, and is creative and can spontaneously shift gears and problem-solve with our children�s needs, whether it�s helping a child through big emotions or facilitating a group activity. While this is an assistant position, there is room for growth and being able to take initiative, be adaptable, and manage group dynamics.

Benefits: After 90 days, a monthly healthcare and wellness taxable stipend will be added to the first paycheck of the month to offset the cost of monthly healthcare premiums. Alnd after 90 days, teachers receive PTO during school breaks (this comes out to about 6 weeks PTO annually).

What this job entails: Supervision of up to 10 infants and toddlers per day (along with two other teachers for a 1:4 teacher: child ratio)

Comprehensive care for infants and toddlers which includes feeding babies, changing diapers, putting children down for nap and facilitating play activities.

Bottle, snack and meal prep and doing dishes. (Teachers are welcome to eat the food we provide for children). These tasks are equally shared by all staff.

General cleaning of spaces when needed.

Observation and assessment - a daily dossier of bottles/diapers/food written down as well as a weekly descriptive journal entry for each child.

Communicating with parents at drop off and pick-up about their child�s day.

Unfortunately our building is not currently wheelchair accessible. In addition, applicants must be able to comfortably lift 30 pounds.

Requirements: Two years minimum experience working with children ages 0-3 for this job. This experience can be nannying or in a school environment. We also ask that you are able to commit to a full year of teaching as we are a small relationship-based learning environment.

To work with us (or in any licensed Oregon child care center): You must be enrolled in the Oregon Central Background Registry. Within your first 30 days of employment, you'll need to have or obtain an Oregon Food Handler's Card and Pediatric First Aid/CPR certification. You'll also need to complete Oregon's Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect and Introduction to Child Care Health & Safety trainings. (We will help with enrollment/paying for these classes if needed).

Covid Safety: This position requires all staff to be fully vaccinated and while it isn't required, most teachers are still wearing masks while indoors with the children. This may change in the future though.
