Job title: Horticultural Technician

Work Location: 80-90% in the field, 10-20% at the main business location

Division/Department: Horticulture Team

Reports to: Horticultural Team Leader

Salary Range: $15.00 - $25.00/Hr.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for general horticultural field work performed at residential and business locations. This position includes the following duties:

· Perform garden planting and maintenance tasks, including but not limited to: weeding, deadheading, pruning, edging, watering, fertilizing, clean-up

· Must be able to safely use landscaping tools and equipment (hand, battery, electric and gas powered) including but not limited to mowers, snowblowers, chainsaws, saws, pruners, garden knives, blowers

· Responsible for the safe loading, unloading and clean up of tools, equipment and vehicles

· Responsible for troubleshooting equipment and tools

· Perform other duties as assigned by team leader, designer and/or general manager

· Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

· Verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers

· Computer proficiency (MS Office, training on Jobber will be provided)

· Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service

· Ability to work independently as well as on a team while carrying out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices

· Must be able to follow directions and perform tasks with efficiency

· Must have an interest and enthusiasm for plants and gardening and be detail oriented

· Previous professional gardening or landscaping experience required

· Relevant education in horticulture, botany, master/certified gardener or related area preferred (educational opportunities are available with employment)

· Job requires the use of a company truck, must have a valid driver’s license and clean MVR

Physical Requirements:

· Must be able to work outside during all types of weather

· Job requires bending, lifting, kneeling, crouching repeatedly for long periods during shift (shifts normally consist of 7:00am – 5:30 pm Monday-Thursday with occasional Friday and weekend work, depending on weather conditions and special projects)

· Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

· Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.

· Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards

· Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone and in person
