Summary/Objective:

This position requires direct patient communication, critical thinking and problem solving. The Medical Assistant works closely with Providers in all aspects of the medical practice. They provide clinical expertise to ensure all patients receive high quality, efficient care. Medical Assistants are responsible for performing a variety of clinical functions such as preparing specimens, assisting during medical procedures, and patient education. They are also accountable for administrative tasks and can proficiently utilize EMR software to scribe documentation and enter billing information into patient records.

Essential Functions:

Clinical Skills
General Dermatology
Greets patient and escorts them to exam room; obtains and documents in EMR accurate patient history including skin history and past medical history, current medications/allergies, and identifies chief complaint of patient's visit with history of present illness.
Assists provider in skin biopsy procedures: instrument set up with local anesthesia, photos of anatomical location in EMR, labels specimen bottle(s) properly and prepares biopsy requisition to send specimens to lab based on patient's insurance.
Assists provider in dermatologic procedures
Performs Patch Testing for patients
Cognizant of patient's past medical history conditions, allergies and medications contraindications to procedures/medications being performed/prescribed
Cosmetic Dermatology
Prepares and assists provider in neurotoxin and dermal filler injections
Prepares and assists provider in laser and other various cosmetic procedures
Keeps up to date on new cosmetic services offered
Assists provider in cosmetic consultations and is well-versed with indications, risks/benefits, and cost
Familiar with cosmetic product lines carried/sold at WED
Surgical Procedures
Proficient in sterile technique
Assists in procedures including: deep shaves, C&D, excisions and MOHS
Bandage Changes
Suture/Staple Removal
Patient Education
Wound/ Post Procedural Care: Biopsies, Surgical and Cosmetic procedure instructions
Basic Skin Care Recommendations
Knowledge of prescription instructions and potential side effects
OSHA Compliant
Contributes and maintains a healthy/safe work environment
Sterilizes instruments and efficiently utilizes Autoclave

Turns over patient rooms by removing sharps, bio-waste, cleaning and setting up for the next patient
Responsible for routinely checking expiration dates of supplies and medications
Discards trash biohazard containers/bags
Set up and restocks medical supplies needed; maintains an organized and clean exam/procedure rooms at all times
Scribe
Understands principles of medical documentation including diagnoses, treatment plans, and medications
Understands fundamentals of coding and billing
Efficiently utilizes EMR software to accurately capture the patient's encounter , not limited to:

Diagnosis (ICD10 codes)
Treatment performed today and plan of care
Medications and electronically submits (per providers instructions) to pharmacy and includes in patient's record
CPT codes/charges
Completes orders for blood work, PDT, treatment to be scheduled (preoperative checklist), or Patch Testing
Indicates follow up visit before patient is discharged
Maintains/updates patient's biopsy log including annotating treatment/date performed
Completes patient specimen requirements by end of day for courier pick-up
Responsible for timely management of charting and completes all patient notes by end of day
When required, accountable for correcting and creating addendum of medical record documentation if missing/insufficient
Administrative/Customer Service
Obtains prior authorizations for prescriptions
Schedules appointments
Satisfies refill prescription requests
Makes outbound phone calls and answers patient questions
Outbound postoperative calls
Discusses patient results for blood work, biopsies, and cultures with appropriate documentation
Complies with all HIPAA regulations and guidance
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

Full time position in a healthcare facility which is open during business hours Monday through Friday. On time and regular attendance will be required. This position may also require over time hours to be worked as needed to accommodate patients' schedules.

Required Education And Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent
At least (1) year of MA or Surgical Tech experience in physicians' office with recent proven technical and clinical skills
Preferred Education And Experience:

MA Certification
Dermatology/Cosmetic Experience
Experience assisting in a surgical setting
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

Must work well independently and be self-motivated but ask for assistance when needed/take instruction from manager
Must have an understanding of dermatology office protocols and procedures
Must be flexible and able to change to adapt to new policies and procedures
Must have the ability to use applicable technology and systems
Must be able to communicate effectively with providers, patients, and co-workers
Must possess critical thinking skills, flexibility, and a positive attitude while working in a fast-paced team environment Other Duties As Assigned
Pay:

$15 - $20 commensurate with experience

Salary reviews are performed routinely

Eligible for staff treatments after 90 days
