Summary:
� Independently performs routine to very complex field and laboratory tests.
� Performs routine to very complex field observations for purposes of verifying conformance to construction plans and specifications.
� Responsible for proper procedures, accurate computations, cordial relationships with clients and/or contractors.
� Performs with minimum supervision and expected to exercise initiative in solving problems.
� Prepares accurate field reports on all projects for review by supervisor prior to submittal to client.
� Provides training and mentoring of others.
� May be called on to perform various tasks other than included herein, at the discretion of the supervisor.

Physical Requirements: Employee will be performing various observations that will consist of, but not limited to, drilled shaft, helical pier and driven pile installation; reinforcing steel, structural masonry, proof-roll, foundation excavation, under drain, and asphalt placement. Other duties will include field moisture-density testing, field asphalt coring and density testing, data logging and concrete cylinder casting and pickup. This position has physical demands that require the employee to be very active and includes extended standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, twisting and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and move items up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and move items up to 80 or more pounds. Specific vision abilities needed for the position include close and distant vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

When scheduled to work in the field, work hours will be approximately an 8-hour day with a normal day starting at 8:00AM and ending at 5:00PM each day. However, hours in the field will depend on the project requirements and the contractor�s performance. Early morning, late evening and night work can be expected.

Preferred Qualifications: WAQTC, ACI Field GRADE I and LabCAT. These certifications are preferred but Martinez may assist the employee in pursuing these certifications.

Experience: 0 to 6 years of experience directly in construction materials testing. High school graduates will be considered for this position. A 2-year related or non-related science college graduate, or 4-year non-related science college graduate will also be considered for this position. Trainees with no experience will also be considered for this position.

Expectations of Work:

1. Competent in the independent performance of all tests and inspections assigned.
2. Has reviewed and become familiar with the project plans, specifications and reports.
3. Responsible for care and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
4. Prepares daily reports of testing and observations.
5. Prepares non-compliance notices and correction records with consultation and approval of supervisor or Project Manager.
6. Troubleshoots field and laboratory work.
7. Prepares own time sheet and expense reports and turns in per company policy.
8. Turns in paperwork and non-compliance notices on a daily basis.
9. Has knowledge of project work scopes, budgets, and productivity and chargeability goals and monitors same.
10. Obtains proper authorizations from the client and supervisor or Project Manager, signed by the client when possible, when requested to perform work beyond the original scope.
11. Advises supervisor or Project Manager of any changes in work scope or of potential budget overruns due to overtime or extended hours on the project.
12. Maintains relationships with owner�s field representatives, contractors, subcontractors, materials suppliers, etc.
13. Must have competent sound and diversified experience with the fundamental engineering or scientific principles, codes and standards of governing authorities, standard test procedures, and standard and project specifications.
14. Assists in troubleshooting project issues.
15. Monitors and controls project work scope, budgets, and achievement of productivity goals.
16. Coordinates with other managers and supervisors with respect to project and scheduling work priorities.
17. Responsible for assuring compliance with the requirements of the Martinez Associates Quality System on all assigned projects.
18. Develops action plans for supervisor approval to correct deficiencies related to the technical or administrative aspects of a project and works with supervisor to finalize plan.
19. Implements, monitors, and revises action plans until deficiencies are addressed.
20. Works with Project Managers and other in-house staff to establish testing priorities and deadlines.
21. Monitors field equipment used to assure proper functioning, adequate inventory and current calibration verification.
22. Trains and mentors new staff in proper procedures.
23. Assures new staff are properly equipped with currently calibrated equipment to perform the tasks assigned.
24. Responsible for helping with company profitability.
