Founded in 1884, the Society of the Companions of the Holy Cross is a group of women, known as Companions, committed to prayer, spiritual growth and simplicity of life. Adelynrood is the Companions' retreat and conference center in Byfield, Massachusetts. Adelynrood sits in a natural setting with beautiful gardens and historic buildings that are ideal for individuals or groups looking for rest, reflection and renewal. Byfield is located 45 minutes north of Boston and minutes from historic Newburyport and the Plum Island beaches, Adelynrood's 14-acre campus backs up to The Great Marsh, New England's largest salt marsh. Adelynrood is available year-round as a retreat or conference location for religious, educational and business groups. Each summer Companions gather at Adelynrood for programs and retreats on religious, social justice and educational topics.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Communications Coordinator role works with the Adelynrood General Manager and the Society of the Companions of the Holy Cross (SCHC) Companion-in-Charge to successfully support SCHC and Adelynrood communications. Working with the staff and visitors of Adelynrood, this role coordinates specific communication initiatives, website maintenance, social media outreach and community relations.


RESPONSIBILITIES OVERVIEW / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Communications Support (50%)

Collaborate with Communication Committee to create and implement SCHC Annual Communication Plan; serves as ad hoc member of Communication Committee.
Partner with General Manager to develop and implement communication plans for Adelynrood specific events, programs, targeted communication and general marketing; write content, design and format and produce materials for digital and traditional print distribution.
Collaborate with SCHC publication editors to edit, design, format and finalize publications.
Create content and design for e-newsletters, e-solicitations and e-invitations.
Design ads, flyers, banners, brochures, fact sheets, event signage, invitations, etc. as needed.
Develop, execute and maintain a weekly/monthly/annual content calendar for all communication channels.
Develop and monitor procedures to ensure all print and digital marketing materials are strategically aligned with SCHC brand message platform.
Collaborate with external vendors to produce branded materials, including business cards, letterhead, printed marketing materials, etc.
Collect photos and videos taken at SCHC and Adelynrood events and maintain digital photo files for ongoing use; create, edit and upload photos and videos to websites and social media outlets as appropriate.


Website and Social Media (25%)

Provide ongoing content management of A------------ and schcC------------ websites; regularly review and update content.
Assist staff and members in troubleshooting website issues; collaborate with Technology Committee as needed.
Create and post regular content to Facebook and Instagram accounts; monitor constituent engagement with social media and respond as appropriate.
Strengthen and expand SCHC's and Adelynrood's virtual presence by developing, scheduling and evaluating new media efforts.
Create and maintain system for tracking, analyzing and reporting data to measure results for online communication efforts; review data and identify opportunities for improvements and new initiatives.
Regularly audit websites to identify user experience and content improvements.


Community Relations and Outreach (25%)

Develop and execute relationship development plan with local businesses, churches, nonprofits and other target audiences in the region to improve awareness of and exposure to both Adelynrood and SCHC as a partner organization.
Build and maintain community relationships by participating in related community and business activities; regularly attend meetings of neighborhood associations, chambers of commerce, city councils, churches, and other key target groups in the region.
Initiate and support opportunities for target audiences to engage with Adelynrood and be exposed to SCHC.
Create and execute marketing campaigns to promote Adelynrood and its programs using local media, community contacts, social media and grassroots efforts.
Respond to general inquiries from businesses, community members and other interested parties.


QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Associate or bachelor's degree is required in Communications, Journalism, English or related field.
At least two years' experience in professional communications. Experience working with volunter orgnaizations preferred.
Experience developing and executing community relations plans to build awareness among target audiences.
Proficiency with web-based design applications (ex, Word Press), Microsoft Office, document collaboration programs (i.e., Google docs) and Internet research required, Adobe formatting, experience in graphic design and website design a plus.
Experience with online communication tools, including WordPress content management, Email campaigns, Facebook and Instagram.
Previous experience in a non-profit is preferred.
Proficiency with web-based design applications, Microsoft Office, document collaboration programs (i.e., Google docs) and Internet research required, experience in graphic design and website design a plus.
Experience developing and executing community relations plans to build awareness among target audiences.
Demonstrated ability to write strategic communications pieces for an organization, including newsletters, website content, brochures, promotional material and member/donor correspondence; must have strong editing and proofing skills.
Ability to problem solve and think creatively; ability to generate and implement new, creative ideas to communicate mission.
Organized, efficient, reliable and detail-oriented with strong interpersonal skills; ability to work both independently and collaboratively with team.
Skilled at and enthusiastic about building relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to relate to people of diverse backgrounds, training and experience; experience working with volunteers preferred.
