General Summary:
Camp KIPP DC is seeking Group Counselors for summer 2022. Camp Counselors serve as key members of the camp team members and participate in professional development training during team orientation and team meetings. The primary responsibility of a Group Counselor is to manage a group of campers each day as they participate in various activities and program areas. Group Counselors are responsible for campers� physical and emotional safety and must ensure that campers feel supported. They live with campers and ensure that campers participate in all activities, make lasting friendships, and build independence, curiosity, confidence, and creativity. Group Counselors report directly to the Director of Camp KIPP DC and their designees.
Change Summer serves campers from a variety of high-functioning school organizations (grades 4-8) over 2-3 two-week sessions during the summer.

At Change Summer, we believe that an overnight summer camp experience:

Provides an opportunity for campers to explore, learn, and have fun in a safe, tight-knit community;
Increases campers� social, emotional, and non-cognitive skills (e.g., self-confidence, responsibility, independence, and curiosity), which are essential to college and life success;
Provides a tremendous summer job opportunity/experience for alumni and rising 12th graders from the Charter Schools we partner with; and
Creates an additional pipeline for strong, diverse teacher candidates for our Charter School Partners by providing a space for counselors (potential teachers) to work directly with their students.

Change Summer camps offer the following program activities for campers:
Athletics: soccer, flag football, basketball, tennis baseball, kickball, street hockey;
Waterfront: swim instruction, general swim, sailing, kayaking, canoeing;
Adventure: nature, overnight camping, climbing, and low ropes;
Inter-Arts: arts & crafts, pottery, theater, dance, music;
STEM: rocketry, natural/environmental science;
Discovery: self-reflection, journaling, team-building; and
Intensives: improvisation, photography, puppeteering, cooking, chess, spoken word, hiking, wacky sports, African dance, step dance, and yoga.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Ensuring camper safety and well-being at all times;
Participating in team orientation professional development trainings;
Ensuring that campers are enjoying their experience at camp by creating a safe, fun environment in which they can make friends, play, and grow;
Ensuring camper physical and emotional safety throughout the entirety of their experience at cmap;
Participating in all camp activities and ensuring that standards are met and campers are safe and happy;
Assisting with camper/family communication, including completing daily reports on each camper communication;
Assuming any role on the team in case of emergency departure, unforeseen circumstances, or illness; and
Performing other related duties as required and assigned by the Camp Director and/or Senior Team.

Qualifications:
A high school diploma, college credit preferred;
Availability to work for the entire camper season (including, Team Orientation and camp sessions) without interruption;
A deep sense of the Change Summer mission and a love for the work;
An easy going, fun loving personality;
A desire and ability to work well in teams;
An �all hands� mentality;
An eagerness to receive feedback and willingness to develop leadership capabilities;
The ability to meet deadlines;
Very strong organizational skills;
A tremendous work ethic;
Ability to work autonomously as well as take direction as needed;
Confidence and presence in both group and one-on-one settings;
Ability to communicate with various stakeholders and solve complex problems; and
