Job Description

I. Title: Assistant Teacher

II. Main Functions: Responsible for assisting the Teacher in meeting the educational, safety, hygiene, nutrition, and nurturing needs of children, including the appropriate treatment and discipline procedures outlined in the personnel policy and procedures manual.

III. Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Works closely with Teacher assuming responsibility for the daily program of activities and experiences, including carrying out weekly lesson plans, room themes, and educational decor.

2. Provides instruction that encourages or supports intellectual growth.

3. Shares with other child care staff housekeeping and rotational duties, including nap supervision.

4. Nurtures, listens to, and disciplines (teaching appropriate behavior) the children.

5. Attends staff meetings and in-service training and makes observable use of knowledge gained.

6. Attends and completes a minimum of four (4) workshops, seminars, and/or conferences related to Early Childhood Development/Education within a calendar year. (This does not include required CPR and First Aid Training)

7. Assists in determining supplies and equipment needed for the classroom.

8. Interacts with children in activities s/he is supervising.

9. Actively participates with children during outdoor play.

10. Assists with children's assessments and provides daily feedback to Teacher and Childcare
Director.

11. Works cooperatively in a team approach with other staff, volunteers, and parents.

12. Performs other duties as assigned.

IV. Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, and Abilities:

Education: High school diploma preferred; GED will be considered with appropriate training and experience.
Training and Experience: Two years in a preschool setting required. Must be able to complete relevant training.
Other Qualifications: Care and concern for children; must be flexible and able to relate to the needs of the clients; understanding of child growth and development; ability to accept and work with low-income, multi-problem families.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $14.00 per hour
