The City of Sanford is seeking a highly qualified candidate to fulfill the position of Assistant City Planner. This is a salaried position starting at $65,028. Upon completion of a six month probationary period the salary increases to $68,379.
This is professional planning position in the field of municipal planning which involves the application of professional knowledge and skills to various land development and municipal planning problems. Work may require extensive contact with other municipal staff, public agencies, developers, residents and advocacy groups; and affords considerable opportunity for independent judgment in laying out work details and making technical determinations. The employee in this classification performs planning related research, analysis, policy development, project management, public process and facilitation, report preparation and public presentations to the Planning Board and various standing and special committees, as needed.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Planning and Development and/or his designee.

Any combination of equivalent experience and education that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in addition to the education and experience listed below:
*Education: Bachelor’s degree in land-use planning, urban planning or a closely related field. Master’s degree in urban planning or related field is preferred.
*Experience: Two or more years of relevant professional municipal planning or related experience is desirable.
*American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Certification preferred.
