About Us

The Boys’ Club of New York (BCNY), founded in 1876, is a youth development organization with the mission to empower boys and young men through outside of school programming at our clubhouses and our residential summer camp in Harriman State Park. BCNY’s Harriman Base Camp’s vision is to foster emotional, physical and ethical growth through thoughtful and diverse activities and programs for boys and young men age 10 through 17. BCNY campers will develop life skills and awareness of social responsibility through outdoor exploration and education. While appreciating their natural surroundings, they will become active stewards of the environment.



Job Summary

?The Camp Social Worker is responsible for monitoring the emotional wellbeing of all campers and supports the staff in the camp community during the course of the camp session by providing guidance, counsel, and the tools needed to navigate challenges that might arise. They will cultivate programs and relationships with young people that are strength-based and restorative. They will have a deep commitment to diversity and equity and integrate the cultural background of young people within the program design. The Camp Social Worker will ensure that?each camper makes new friends?and that?staff and campers have a positive summer experience where memories of BCNY Base Camp?are created to last a lifetime.? Must be available for mandatory training sessions in June.?



Responsibilities

Review each participant’s profile and help staff to plan for participants’ needs??
Observe all participants and follow up on any potential issues??
Assist and support staff with camper adjustment issues and concerns (i.e. ?homesickness)
Work with campers in 1:1 sessions or small groups, as needed
Host restorative circles and Young Men’s Group
Work closely with the camp nurse to monitor the overlap of the physical and emotional wellbeing of participants.??
Contact parents to discuss participants when necessary??
Be available to respond to crisis situations??
Be available and present to?campers?and staff throughout the camp day

Requirements

Master's?degree in social work, public health, creative arts therapy, psychology or related human services field.
At least 2 years of clinical experience with children, teens and their families
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must have the ability to form strong working relationships with other staff in a short period of time.
Must be proficient in managing and maintaining confidential client records.
Must be a team player, able to think on their feet and take initiative and respond quickly and calmly in emergency/crisis situations.


Qualifications

Previous experience working in a residential camp environment or other residential setting preferred.
Prior camp experience (as a camper or staff member) and knowledge of the camp environment/culture preferred.??
Bilingual in Spanish or Mandarin preferred??
Must have current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certifications (will train if necessary).
Desire, ability and willingness to work and live in a camp community and to reside in State Park, NY (including overnights) the entire time camp is in session.
Ability to pass a background check, physical exam and be up to date on all required immunizations.
All staff must provide proof of their MMR and COVID-19 immunization.
