Who We Are

Founded in 1999, The Giving Spirit has been tackling the “first mile” of care and learning to our unhoused  neighbors in Greater Los Angeles through a twofold mission: meaningful aid and educational  empowerment. We provide:

• First mile of care: we provide immediate, tangible aid to unhoused individuals and families by  procuring, assembling, and directly providing uniquely curated “survival kits” containing dozens  of essential life-sustaining items packed into durable, weatherproof multi-use duffel bags,  backpacks or knapsacks.

• First mile of learning: we engage and educate communities on the human face of homelessness,  myths and realities surrounding the homeless experience, and our theory of change: that  workable solutions to end homelessness arise from direct community engagement, first-person  lived experience storytelling, powerful relevant data, and our common humanity.
