 At our Plattsburgh YMCA Summer Camps, our goals are to teach youth social responsibility through environmental stewardship, community living, and working with one another in a group setting that builds friendships. Youth develop and learn new skills to improve their sense of self-worth and confidence in an accepting environment where all are welcome. 


 

We have two positions advertised.  Camp Jericho is hiring for a 20 hours per week person and Camp Tapawingo is hiring for 15 hours per week position.


 

GENERAL FUNCTION 

Under the supervision of the COO, the Camp Health Director is responsible for the health and safety of campers and oversees medication administration. The Health Director will maintain the cleanliness and organization of the camp Health Center and health/emergency supplies. In addition, the Health Director will function as a member of the administrative team, providing leadership to the camp staff team by assisting and answering any medical questions.


 

 POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Inventory health care supplies and inform the COO of inventory needs.
  • Attend and take a lead role in staff training, specifically training counseling staff about their role in the health service program.
  • Review all camper and staff health forms, making a note of any particular health-related circumstances.
  • Assists in calling parents for any camper-related health needs.
  • Manage daily medication delivery to campers and staff and keep accurate records of all medication delivery, according to American Camp Association accreditation and State of NY permitting standards.
  • Managing daily health issues as they arise and keeping accurate records of any treatment given.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitized camp health center for camper and staff healthcare.
  • Act as a positive role model for campers and staff.
  • Establish a good working relationship with all staff.
  • Performs other necessary functions as assigned by the COO. 


 

MEASUREMENT OF PERFORMANCE 

  • Campers will have a positive and safe experience with health services.
  • Staff will take an active role in health management.
  • The health services program will operate in compliance with permitting standards.
  • Medication will be dispensed properly and promptly, to campers and staff.
  • All paperwork will be completed accurately and on time, as determined by the COO.
  • Camp will operate at a high level of health standards, with minimal injury and/or illness. 

 

Requirements

 

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Must be at least 21 years of age with a desire to work in a day camp community.
  • Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Must hold a current certification as an Emergency Medical Technician, RN, LPN or EMT.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to organize, update and maintain records.
