Job Overview:
Luxe Yacht Club is looking for an experienced, responsible manager to join our crew! If you love being outside and have boating skills and managerial experience we want you to be our Dockmaster!

We have a fun upbeat staff and are looking for someone who:

  • Is a friendly person with a positive, outgoing attitude
  • Has experience with boats, local waterways, and basic mechanical or technical repair.
  • Builds agile, customer service-focused teams to deliver on the evolving expectations of our members (customers)
  • engages in two-way dialogue with clients and Owners
  • Is able to think on your feet & adapt to different, often urgent situations
  • Is able to work Mornings Afternoons, Evenings, and occasional late nights in varying weather conditions. You create a schedule based on your ideal work times
  • Is ready to work May through October

Who we are & what we need!

Luxe Yacht Club offers members unlimited access to a 36' Foot Yacht without the hassle of owning. We take care of all maintenance, cleaning, and fueling. Whether you’re going out with friends, family, water skiing, or watching the Navy Pier fireworks, our team is ready to help you make memories!

The Dockmaster oversees the operation of 31st Harbor location. They train, supervise, and and may have to stand in as a dockhand, manage inventory and strive to keep the boat in its best condition. The Dockmaster must take on the role of their dockhands to assist club members and their guests with the highest degree of courtesy and professionalism. The member's boating and overall club experience rests on the Dockmasters shoulders.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Manage reservations and input maintenance in an online system.
  • Continually monitor weather conditions, wave reports, local water events, local water regulations to inform daily staff responsibilities. Orchestrate each day's safe boating time.
  • Tasks include: Cleaning and detailing boats, organizing equipment, performing damage audits, fixing basic mechanical issues or scheduling Mechanics to do so, assisting members with boarding/disembarking boats, casting off/securing lines
  • Being present on the dock daily; supervising staff, maintaining inventory, organizing supplies, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring the member is getting the best experience.
  • Being in constant communication with members as it pertains to their reservation, weather and boat changes, parking and guest information, general questions occasionally when not present on the dock.
  • Executing daily safety and vessel inspection programs; checking oil and fluid levels, engine trim, safety equipment. Scheduling required maintenance with the Operations Manager
  • Staying up to date with our vessel, capabilities, systems, amenities and equipment. Ensure that your team can accurately communicate this information to members.
  • Enjoying the outdoors! While you are required to be close to or on the dock most days, you will have the flexibility to make your own schedule and take time to enjoy the lake using our boat.

  • Demonstrated ability to set standards and hold team members accountable
  • Commitment to delivering an outstanding customer experience
  • 21+ Years old with a Valid drivers license
  • Ability to work part-time: 20+ hours a week May to end of October
  • Sufficient experience working outdoors, operating boats in tight waterways, in/out of slips, fueling boats. Ability to instruct members and/or staff on driving boats, or other nautical skills is a big plus!
  • Experience with basic power and hand tools, screwing in bolts/screws, fixing simple repairs on vessels and docks. Training is available but you must "be handy".
  • Must process high technological ability to interface with several iPhone applications, and a challenging web app reservation tool

Compensation

  • $130 per booked trip. Administrative fees are separate and can be negotiated based on need.
  • Tips (staff members keep tips that are given to them directly - no pool)
  • If you become the dockhand for a trip, you can earn and addtional $100-$150.
  • Member excessive cleaning penalties ($25-$50) are awarded to the dockmaster. You may pass on to whomever completes work if desired
  • Usage of the boat fleet on non-chartered days, with the approval of Operations Manager. (gas and captain is at your own expense)
  • Opportunity to build relationships with harbor staff, other boaters, mechanics, and captains. This is a fantastic opportunity if you are looking to get your captains license and need sea time!
