Job Title: Assistant Program Manager
Status: Part Time (25-30 hours/ week)
Reports To: Operations Manager
Hours: Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday- MUST BE AVAILABLE WEEKENDS; DO NOT APPLY IF YOU DO NOT HAVE WEEKEND AVAILABILITY
Job Purpose:
Coordinates operations for some of Palmetto Outdoor’s ongoing trips and events, including tubing trips, guided canoe tours, and occasional events. Provides assistance for other programs as needed and helps with volunteer recruitment and retention.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Coordination:
Works closely with Operations Manager, guides, and other staff to coordinate program efforts
Responds to phone and email inquiries from the general public in a timely manner to address questions related to tubing, canoe tours, and general outdoor questions
Participates in daily tubing and canoeing operations when needed, such as signing guests up at the tubing check in kiosk, inflating equipment at the put in, and/or administering the safety speech prior to launching groups.
Participates in guided canoe tours at Congaree National Park as needed.
Creates reservations and assigns guides to canoe tours.
Writes and revises policies and procedures.
Marketing/ Social Media:
Creates 4-5 social media posts per week (Instagram and Facebook).
Creates 1-2 newsletters per month (Squarespace)
Writes 1 blog every other week (Squarespace)
Creates/updates flyers, rack cards as needed
Answers Facebook/Instagram messages
Attends monthly breakfast meetings at CWC Chamber of Commerce, RAC at Lake Murray, etc
Delivers rack cards to hotels, visitor centers, etc
Develops partnerships with Airbnbs or hotels in the area for preferred rates
Job Specifications and Qualifications:
Knowledge:
Knowledge of, or interest in, outdoor education, river trips, and eco tourism
Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively, both orally and in writing
Comfortable speaking to groups, networking, and possibly interviews about Palmetto Outdoor programs
Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive Products, Canva, etc
Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work independently
Excellent organization skills
Must be detail oriented
Must have a driver's license, reliable transportation, and clean driving record
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree, with 1-3 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successful perform the essential duties of the job preferred but not necessary
Experience in business, tourism, hospitality, or management preferred but not necessary
Licensing and Certifications:
Valid Driver’s License
Working Conditions/ Physical Requirements:
Work is performed both in an office and outside, and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment (computer, printer, etc). Must have the ability to lift and carry bins and boxes containing paperwork, equipment, etc up to 50 pounds
Some work requires working outdoors under extreme weather conditions helping with tubing operation or canoe tours, which may require walking, carrying equipment, bending, crouching, grabbing, and other physical movements, as well as loading and unloading supplies for trips/events.
Tubing trips require the ability to inflate, deflate, load, and unload equipment. Canoe tours require the ability to load and unload trailers (with assistance).
Pay:
Pay rate depends on experience
Training pay ~$10/hr
Move up to $13-$15/hr range
