Summary: 

To teach and assist ELL students in improving their English skills (reading, listening, conversation, writing). To instruct ELL students in classes and learning experiences which will lead to the achievement of their educational and personal goals.

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Utilize appropriate ELL curriculum using a variety of materials and teaching techniques to enhance student

learning and outcomes, and to maintain student interest.

  1. Maintain accurate, current, and complete records.  Assess and document student progress, assist with data collection efforts, and complete required reports.
  2. Prepare a syllabus and daily lesson plans for each session/class based on student needs, class and

individual profiles, and student interest.

  1. Maintain confidentiality of student records and personal information at all times.
  2. Incorporate the use of technology into the curriculum and classroom instruction as appropriate.
  3. Maintain cooperative relationships and open communication with all staff and students. Keep Director

informed of all pertinent information.

  1. Administers tests and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating students’ language ability.
  2. Instructs bilingual students for the purpose of improving their success in academics and skills.
  3. Utilizes an adopted course of study, instructional program guidelines, and other materials in planning and developing lesson plans and teaching outlines.
  4. Pursues a variety of methodology in teaching and instructing students, including lectures, demonstrations, discussions, lectures, and laboratory experiences.
  5. Plans, develops, and utilizes a variety of instructional materials and aids appropriate to the intellectual and instructional level of students from varied socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, and who possess a range of mental and emotional maturity.
  6. Reviews, analyzes and evaluates the history, background, and assessment of students in designing instructional programs to meet individual educational needs.
  7. Individualizes and adapts educational processes and procedures to enhance student educational opportunities.
  8. Provides group and individual instruction to motivate students, and effectively utilizes the time available for instructional activities.
  9. Maintains appropriate standards of student behavior, using behavioral management strategies and techniques, including positive reinforcement and behavior shaping procedures.
  10. Reviews, analyzes, evaluates, and reports student academic, social, and emotional growth.
  11. Prepares, administers, scores, records, and reports the results of criterion referenced tests, and administers, scores, records, and reports the results of group standardized tests in evaluating student growth and progress.
  12. Counsels, confers with and communicates with parents, school, and school personnel regarding student progress, and in the interpretation of the educational program.
  13. Cooperatively pursues alternative solutions to ameliorate student learning problems, and to enhance expanded

academic, social, and emotional growth opportunities.

  1. Aids department head in selecting appropriate educational supplies, materials, books, equipment, and learning aids.
  2. Performs a variety of non-instructional duties, including curriculum and instructional development activities,

student supervision, and consultation activities.

  1. Other duties as assigned by the Dean.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Minimum Job Requirements: 

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, Master’s Degree is preferred.  Excellent teaching skills, effective written and verbal communication skills, superb interpersonal and leadership skills, organizational and multi-tasking skills, and ability to relate to people of other cultures or nationalities. He/she should also be patient, creative, detail-oriented and analytical.

pertaining to comprehensive secondary programming; 

  1. Behavior management and behavior shaping strategies, techniques and methods, and conflict resolution 

procedures; 

  1. Plan, organize, develop, and conduct a comprehensive teaching and instruction program for students at the secondary level; 
  2. Provide appropriate and effective learning experiences for students from a wide range of socio-economic levels and cultural backgrounds.
  3. Effectively assess the instructional and educational needs of students, and design, develop, and implement sound instructional and educational programs; 
  4. Provide a motivating and stimulating learning environment; 
  5. Perform research and development activities pertaining to curriculum and instructional programs and innovative and creative pilot projects designed to enhance pupil educational opportunities and experiences

 

 

 

Physical demands and work environment:  the physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Physical demands:  While performing this job, the employee must be able to lift 25 pounds, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects and keyboards; reach with hands and arms (both), balance, stoop, and stand for at least two hours at a time. The employee must be able to climb multiple flights of stairs multiple times daily. The specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.

Work environment:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.  Work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather conditions with slipping, tripping and bumping hazards.
