Turning Leaf Agency Corporation is a DDS private provider, providing continuous residential support and In-home support to individuals with intellectual and developmental challenges in Eastern Connecticut of all ages and abilities. Job Title: Direct Support Professional

Reports to: Residential Manager

Work Location: Canterbury, CT

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: From $17.25 per hour

Direct Support Professional Responsibilities & Daily Duties:

  • Treat all individuals in an age-appropriate manner, with respect and dignity, and encourage opportunities that promote choices.
  • Train, supervise, and support individuals in the community, vocational, social/leisure, recreational, and other identified skill areas, ensuring quality support.
  • Maintain a professional environment during work hours.
  • Act as a primary liaison between assigned outside vendors, promoting individual inclusion within the community.
  • Maintain individual daily schedules to include but not limited to ADLs, financial, medical, and recreation.
  • Provide information relevant to the assigned individuals? needs.
  • Responsible for the safety and well-being of all individuals; ensure the proper use of supplies/equipment, facilities, and vehicles; report all accidents and provide a written Incident Report.
  • Keep management informed of any changes in established policies and procedures or the need to modify any area of the operation/activity and have open communication with individual residential staff/family.
  • Cleaning and maintenance of the home, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Be able to stay on shift if there is a call out and coverage is not found.
  • Responsible for any additional task asked by management.
  • Responsible for ensuring that staffing is in line with individual needs.
  • Complete daily documentation on individuals served

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must have a High School Diploma/GED
  • Must be able to pass a criminal and motor vehicle background check

Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job. These include but are not limited to: the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds for assisting individuals with personal care needs and/or the purpose of performing daily job duties, the ability to twist, bend and reach immediately to address medical and behavioral incidents, ability to enter and exit agency vehicle at numerous stops for a minimum of one hour and the ability to drive agency vehicle for a minimum of 30 minutes without stops.

Able to successfully complete agency training, including but not limited to CPR, First Aid, PMT, Medication Certification, etc.
