Summary/objective
The Accounting Specialist will prepare financial reports to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities.

Essential functions

• Develop, maintain, and update a documented system of policies and procedures for financial management and accounting.
• Performs general cost accounting and other related duties in the accounting department.
• Prepares periodic balance sheets, income statements, profit and loss statements, and internal financial audits.
• Code invoices, set up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books.
• Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from financial institutions.
• Reconciles customer accounts and manages accounts receivable collections.
• Verifies the payment of invoices are charged to the appropriate accounts.
• Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
• Files required tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
• As appropriate, coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software system; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Competencies
• Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
• Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
• Highly proficient with accounting software.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, or similar software.
• Proficient with QuickBooks Accounting software.

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate a computer and perform accounting activities in an office environment, with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Must be able to lift 15 pounds/6.8Kg at times.

Travel required:
To financial institutions.

Required education and experience:
• High School/GED
• 3+ years of accounting experience

Preferred education and experience
• Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
• 5+ years of accounting experience
• Professional Certification in Accounting, Finance, or related accounting software

Background check and Drug Test requirements
Must be able to pass a background check and drug during the interview process.
