(NEWLY LICENSED ATTORNEY(S) ALSO ENCOURAGED TO RESPOND)
VOLUNTEER COASTAL COMMUNITY RESCUE UNIT IN NEED OF AN ATTORNEY TO SAVE OUR LAND AND BUILDING (RESCUE STATION). OUR RESCUE STATION WAS ILLEGALLY SEIZED BY THE CITY OF BIDDEFORD.

(Note: The City of Biddeford is being represented by Attorney Harry Center (City Solicitor) of the firm of Woodman Edmands Danylik Austin Smith & Jacques, P.A. of Biddeford, Maine).

The Hills Beach Volunteer Fire + Rescue Unit (the "Rescue Unit") is a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit corporation in good standing with the State of Maine. It owns its real estate at 162 Hills Beach Road, Biddeford, Maine (see tax record at ------------ and then check Online Tax Assessments then enter address) or click on the following link, or, copy and paste: ------------/biddefordme/Parcel.aspx?Pid=5739

The Rescue Unit has always been operated by strictly volunteers and their purpose has always been to assist in saving lives and property and to provide shelter to people in the community whose homes may have been affected by storm damage or loss of power, especially during frigid temperatures.

BACKGROUND: the volunteers of the Rescue Unit acquired a small parcel of land in 1978 for which to build a coastal community rescue station, and did, and has owned it ever since it was constructed and still does to this day. During that process the City provided one fire truck, but, state laws for the training requirements for its volunteer fire fighters changed in later years (around 2004) causing it to become prohibitive for the volunteers to undergo the new, extensive, time consuming training away from their normal daytime working hours so the Rescue Unit released use of the fire truck back to the City, but every other purpose remained the same.

As we have seen in recent months of the perils of "Hurricanes Ian and Nicole" with many lives lost and many neighborhoods destroyed...that one (1) municipal rescue boat does not provide the total solution. Neither would one rescue boat in Biddeford, Maine be the answer to a similar, devastating hurricane or nor'easter.

As a result of the state's volunteer fire fighting training requirements having changed the Rescue Unit released the fire truck back to the City of Biddeford, but, Biddeford City Management arranged to "illegally" seize our land and building, changed all the door locks, and seized all the rescue unit's other equipment and furnishings. Now the Biddeford City Management believes it has the right to claim ownership of not only the land but also ownership of our two-story building which the volunteers built and paid for through community fund raising drives to pay off the mortgage loan we obtained from the Saco and Biddeford Savings Institution to purchase all the building materials. The Rescue Station building was built by the volunteers of the Rescue Unit and not by any other source or any government assistance.

The Rescue Unit volunteers want to continue its original purpose of contributing to the people of this community by coming to the peoples' needs and more importantly at this time by use of other lifesaving rescue equipment, such as, sea search and rescue boats, power generators to produce electricity to power lights and its heating system for warmth and shelter to residents during storms and power outages, etc.

Biddeford City Management has illegally refused to allow rescue service volunteers access to the Rescue Unit corporation's very own building by claiming that the City of Biddeford now owns all of the Rescue Unit corporation's land, building, equipment, and all its furnishings used in its 2nd floor training and mess hall.

Biddeford City Management's illegal seizure of the Rescue Unit corporation's land and building and neglect of the Rescue Station's required maintenance over time resulted in deterioration of the building's structural integrity and appearance.

Realizing that the Biddeford City Management unlawfully seized the Rescue Unit's real estate Biddeford City Management has recently filed a lawsuit in the York County Superior Court* ("Court") asking the Court to 'quiet title' in the City's behalf and for the Court to grant the transfer (take away) of title (ownership) from the Rescue Unit corporation and 'give' the Rescue Unit's ownership to the City of Biddeford so that Biddeford City Management would then be able to legally transfer title of all of the Rescue Unit's real estate and personal equipment to the Hills Beach Association (HBA) (A TOTALLY UNRELATED CORPORATION). The City knows full well that the HBA's plans are then to immediately transfer title of the Rescue Unit corporation's real estate to yet another unknown TOTALLY UNRELATED ENTITY to be operated by yet to be known several individuals so that the latter can then transform the Rescue Unit's land and Rescue Station and building into their very own 'privately controlled clubhouse'.

We need the assistance of a compassionate, honest attorney (or attorneys) to come to the rescue of this Rescue Unit corporation .

An attorney coming to our needs as a pro bono attorney would be especially appreciated, or on a contingency basis, or some other cooperative workable arrangement to pay for (hopefully reasonable) services over time via Rescue Unit fundraising drives.

We need a rescue attorney to come to our aid to counter Biddeford City Management's illegal seizure, to protect the Rescue Unit Corporation's assets, and to preserve this worthy cause for the caring of the people of the Hills Beach community (and other nearby communities) in Biddeford, Maine.
