Dear Hiring Manager,
I am writing to express my interest in your marketing intern position with Utah Outdoor Association. I am Psychology graduate with a minor in Management, and have customer service experience and great interpersonal skills. I am very interested in applying my skills and love of the outdoors to a potential job with Utah Outdoor Association.
At my current job, I am a registered behavioral therapist doing ABA therapy. This means I work one on one with children with autism. I work with a 5-year-old girl, a 4-year-old boy, and an 8-year-old boy, focusing on functional communication to work through maladaptive behaviors. This job includes lots of patience, adaptability, and problem solving, and has challenged me to find new ways of communicating with those who have different life experiences than I do. It also involves effectively communicating with supervisors and families to formulate the best programs for the kids, as well as lots of fun and play with my clients.
Before I moved to Utah, I worked as a manager at a coffee shop in South Carolina, where I greeted customers, made food and drink orders, and communicated with other staff members. As a manager, I was the connecting staff member between the owners of the shop, and other staff. I was also responsible for opening and closing the shop on my own, closing the register, distributing payroll, taking inventory, and ordering supplies – all demonstrating a high level of independence and responsibility. It was my job to interact with customers and staff to make them feel welcome and like they are part of the overall community.
While in college, I served as a trip leader for Clemson’s Outdoor Recreation and Education program, which took customer service to a whole new level. Here, I was responsible for the physical and emotional safety and wellbeing of my participants while on backpacking and rock climbing trips, often overnight and in different states across the country. This job took a lot of organization, emotional intelligence, and dedication to my job and my participants. Similarly, I worked as the head of Mountaineering staff at Camp Merrie-Woode, where my job as a trip leader was very similar to that at Clemson, but it was with girls ages 7-17. At camp, I was also the leader for my staff of 8, and I was responsible for assisting them before and after their own trips, communicating with them, and helping them with any needs, inside and outside of the job, and holding a safe space for debriefs.
I have attached my resume which gives additional information about my educational background and work experience. I am confident that my strong communication skills, ability to work independently and with a team, and my love for people, would make me an asset to your team. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss my qualifications with you. I may be reached by cellphone ------------) or email (------------).
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Rachel Hume
