Work Experience
Sports Editor, Augustana University Mirror
June 2020 to Present; Sioux Falls, South Dakota
My position for the Augustana Mirror gave me my first glimpse at real world publications outside of a high school level. This position allowed me to both serve as a reporter and an editor to our contributing writers. Daily tasks included:
- Designing three pages per print issue on Adobe InDesign, one in color
- Writing catchy and interesting stories within short time frames
- Following strict deadlines for alternating print and online issues
- Publishing stories online through Wordpress sites
- Collaborating with an investigative team to procure sources and documents
- Editing submitted stories to follow proper organization standards and AP style
This position will be ongoing and will coincide with my semester classes. I will continue to take on higher roles throughout my career at Augustana.

Editor-In-Chief, Elkhorn South High School Storm Alert Newspaper
May 2018 to May 2019; Elkhorn, Nebraska
My position at Elkhorn South grew from reporter to web editor to editor-in-chief. Because of the lack of interest in the newspaper over the yearbook, I was tasked with creating nearly all of the foundational structure for the paper. My tasks included:
- Overhauling the design of our web page as we switched providers
- Creating a new design for the newspaper on Adobe InDesign
- Regulating deadlines for my reporting team
- Overseeing the story process, from ideas, drafts, editing and publishing
My former journalism advisor at Elkhorn South resigned the year I graduated and is unavailable for contact with association to the school any longer.
Barista, Scooter's Coffeehouse
Aug 2019 to Present; Sioux Falls, South Dakota
As a barista for Scooters Coffee, I was responsible for providing a satisfactory customer experience as well as handling the finances of the store. This retail experience provided me with the ability to care for a customer and follow regulations set by a corporation. Daily tasks included:
- High-speed multitasking during stressful rushes
- Handling customer’s needs and complaints
- Supporting coworkers through training, sales pitches, and cleanup
- Providing assistance to the manager by handling closing duties
- Maintaining cleanliness in both the customer space and kitchen areas
- Helping with scheduling, databasing, and information systems
- Using payment processing systems and rewards program data input
This position provides me the opportunity to take a leave of absence if need be, and therefore I will remain a hired employee while having the time to live elsewhere for work.
Nanny, Multiple Families
May 2017 to August 2019; Elkhorn, Nebraska
While nannying does not relate to my future career path, I felt it important to note the tasks I had to perform and the skills I learned while working for multiple families at once.
Brainstorming solutions to childcare issues
- Working with the child’s family to co-parent the infant as she grew
- Providing availability for early morning hours, late evenings, and overnights
- Multitasking between organization, cleaning, teaching, and caring
- Organizing multiple families in the same day
- Being available at a moment’s notice with strong commitment
