Research Endeavors
? Synopsis: The Reverse Hyperextension (RHE) machine is widely used in gyms across the United states. Anecdotally reported to benefit those with back pain with claims of traction of the lumbar spine at the bottom of the movement.
? Role: Recruited and organized research group to facilitate coherent work environment. Selected discernable ultrasound images for data analysis, investigated evidence, and interpreted results for discussion.
? Methodologies: Ultrasound images/videos were taken by a trained clinician in static and during RHE exercise of 7 participants. Images were utilized to measure inter-mammillary space (IMS) and zygapophyseal joints (ZPJ) distances for interpretation of data results.
? Findings: Significant decrease in IMS and ZPJ distances at bottom position of L3-L4, and top position of IMS of the RHE exercise compared to static position. May effectively stabilize the L3-L5 vertebrae and potentially strengthen the paraspinals isometrically.
? Signature Achievement: First group of researchers known to perform an analysis of the RHE and its relationship to the IMS and ZPJ.
