Dear Rise Academy of Dance,

As a dancer and movement artist, I absorb other artists’ creative ideas through a physical process of learning their movement. I am obsessed with understanding their artistic intentions and bringing them to life in physical form. I choreograph and create by inventing sequences of movement through improvisation of my body’s natural tendencies. I am constantly inspired by other art forms such as music or visual art. I digest and unfold my thoughts about these other art forms through a mindful practice of physicalization. This practice leads to a human experience dedicated to understanding this world, art, energy, and each other, through physical form. To me, dance is a physical conversation of our energy, skin, muscles, and bones expressing ideas to provoke feelings or thoughts. I believe movement artists feel human experience on a deeper physical scale because of our ability to understand and produce thoughts through our own bodies. It is my goal as an artist to blur the line between artists of different mediums and create opportunity for more collaboration between all art forms.

As an artist who also started as a dance studio kid, my goal as a dance teacher is to expose young kids to the possibilities dance can lead them to when they exit the competition world and I hope to help them see the connection between dance and life lessons. I believe this is important so the kids learn to work hard for the right reasons and understand how to have fun and do their best whenever they get the chance to perform. I have been teaching dance for five years and was an assistant teacher prior to then. I really enjoy connecting with all different kinds of learners from a wide age range of 5-18 and love to witness their growth. I have been choreographing for five years as well, and grew up watching my older sister choreograph all my life since she is also a professional dancer. I have choreographed on kids as little as five years old and as old as my colleagues at Cal State University Long Beach. If given the opportunity to work with your students, I see myself there long term because I get attached to my students and will do everything I can to help them succeed and find their artistic voice in movement. Above you can find my resumé.

Sincerely,
