“Pinocchio”.
Used media: Aquarelle and pencil.
1978 –1983 I study Graphic Design with an Emphasis in Communication Design at
the University of Applied Sciences in Nuernberg , West – Germany.
1974 I receive my Baccalaureate from the Grammar School of Fine Art and
Classical Music in Sibiu , Romania.
1966 – 1974 Grammar School of Fine Art and Classical Music, Sibiu, Romania.
I had the privilege, during eight years, to study Art very profound and
intensive. I had six days a week school, that means, from 8 AM to
2 PM math, history, Latin, French, English, chemistry, etc and
each afternoon, four hours of an intensive art program. The art program
was very complex and ambitious covering: Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Croquis-
Figure Drawing, Composition, Illustration, Graphic, Textile,
Decorative Drawing and Painting.
I studied classical drawing in diverse media – after antique Greek and
Roman statues (plaster), portraits, studies after anatomical parts in
bas-relief and alto-relief, nature studies, human body studies, still life
and landscapes.
I studied classical painting in a very orthodox, meticulous way, learning to
work in Gouache, Oil, Aquarelle and several mix media techniques.
In the long warm season, we painted outside, working on studies after nature
emphasizing the values of light and shade and the changing effects during
the day time.
During my sculpture classes, I learned to work with clay and later with
plaster, soft rocks and metal. I studied bas-relief, alto-relief, 3-D
compositions, busts and auto portrait.
Croquis- Figure Drawing was one of the most intensive, complex and
difficult classes. The school always hired several models of diverse ages and
expressive proportions.
We started with one minute croquis, to warm up, to two minutes, etc. We
worked with pen and ink, graphite, pastel, crayons, ink wash, charcoal,
aquarelle and ink and several other mix media.
Composition was an important, crucial class what emphasized airy, full of
space, asymmetrical, sometimes serene compositions, in opposition to
dramatical intense compositions full of expressive motions and colors.
Illustration classes were emphasizing illustration and typography for
children books, poetry books, novels, documentaries, magazines, etc.
In Graphic classes we learned typography and several printing procedures,
like printing, wood printing, the engraving and etching process, Aqua Tinta and
cold needle.
Textile classes taught us about fabrics and their history, about divers
processes of dying and printing with mix media, about how to develop and
design patterns on fabrics and later, how to weave our own designed rug
and tapestry.
In Decorative Drawing and Painting classes, we learned to simplify and
to stylize shapes, and colors.
1962 – 1966 Elementary School , Sibiu , Romania.
