Dear G.R.A.C.E. Committee:
My Name is Dezaray Martinez and I am a senior at California State University, Fresno majoring in Recreation Administration with an emphasis in Community Recreation and Youth Services. I am excited to reach out to your organization in hopes of securing a non-paying internship position for Fall 2021 or Spring 2022. After researching Girls Rising Above Sexual Exploitation, I am impressed by your Parent and Youth Advocacy and Leadership programs, and I know that I can contribute to your mission of bringing support, empowering, and providing services to victims of child exploitation and at-risk youth by applying my skills in inclusion, diversity, equity and resiliency.
My educational background in Community Recreation and Youth Services has taught me to listen to my community needs while providing equitable resources for all. My courses and community service experiences have enhanced my community outreach skills, leadership skills, and allowed me to facilitate and develop programs such as preventative and leadership enhancement for at-risk youth and low-income communities.
As a volunteer for Fresno Street Saints, I developed empowering sessions to address depression, self-care, self-harm, and anxiety after noticing that there was a need within the youth. Through these efforts, I noticed an increase in youth participation and fellowship. As a paraprofessional for Clovis Unified School District, I was given the opportunity to work with at-risk children and teens who suffered from mental illness. Additionally, in my paraprofessional tutoring position with Fresno Unified School District, I provided resources for low-income families and families with students diagnosed with a mental health issue or disability. I helped families apply for resources such as Cal-Fresh, Cash-Aid, Medical-Cal, and other community-based resources that may have benefited their needs.
I am confident that I can offer my experience and knowledge to your organization to help reach your goal to support, empower, and provide services to victims of child exploitation and at-risk youth. Enclosed is my resume for your review. I look forward to scheduling an interview at your earliest convenience.
Best Regards,
Dezaray Martinez
