JANUARY 2019-MARCH 2019
STUDENT RESEARCHER, BALDWIN WALLACE UNIVERSITY
Animal Behavior and Neuroscience
Assisted a professor in a 3-year experiment to see how long it took rats to unlearn a stress response. The goal was to understand if there was a difference between how quickly they could unlearn the stress response based on their age or sex. Research was intended to better understand whether age and sex of the animal related to how fast they could unlearn the stress response. This information can potentially be used for psychological therapy on humans in the future. My contributions included:
• Teaching the rats the behavior needed to get sugar water in the Operant Conditioning chamber
• Measuring response times and stress reactions
• Weighing, feeding, and cleaning the rats and their habitats
