Zoe Wickens' CV

I am a confident and organised individual who has worked across print and online mediums, and for consumer and business to business publications. A selection of my writing can be found here (www.clippings.me/zoewickens). I have an MA in Magazine Journalism from City, University of London, where I learnt how to write news stories and features, how to use InDesign, how to edit audio and video, and studied law and ethics. I write beauty product reviews on my blog (------------) and am keen to join the beauty industry as a journalist.

• I am a reporter at Optician, where I find, research and write a range of news stories and features for the magazine and website, from cosmetics suitable for sensitive eyes to the latest eyewear. I have conducted and written up interviews with lens companies and have attended an eyewear show in Paris, which I wrote a show report about based on eyewear companies I interviewed. I also help to upload stories to the CMS for the website.

• I worked as a staff writer for six months (October 2017 – March 2018) at Cage & Aviary Birds magazine, where I found, researched and wrote a range of news stories. I inputted bird club data into a database, placed it on an InDesign page ready for print and sub-edited it. I was in charge of uploading content onto the website and I also ran the magazine’s Facebook page. To maximise audience engagement, I uploaded links of that week’s stories from the website and answered all queries. By doing this, I significantly increased conversation and participation on the magazine’s social media page. I also helped to sub-edit pages before they went to press and completed general administrative duties. I created the Readers’ Gallery and the Marketplace pages in the magazine, where I collated bird photos from readers and researched appropriate bird products and wrote a brief description of each.

• I worked as a Copy Editor for six months (April 2017 – September 2017) at ------------, where I checked copy for spelling, grammar and punctuation mistakes, as well as fact checking and altering the format for Wordpress.
