Zachary M. Reshovsky Resume

To Whom It May Concern,

I watched the 2016 presidential election from across the Pacific with a crowd of globalized classmates. A former platoon sergeant from Estonia murmured how he would probably be called back up for duty, forced to face down the Russian military without the support of US allies. A classmate from Mexico wept uncontrollably because he feared his younger brother’s undocumented family in the US would be ripped apart by a deportation force. An Iranian whose dissident family was residing in the US stood rigidly, terrified that, when she returned to the US from our Beijing-based MA Program, she would be subject to the same vicious hate crimes she had been persecuted for in her country of birth. In their pain, I saw my grandparents, then recently immigrated Japanese-Americans whose community was devastated by ethnically-motivated WWII era internment, and how the oncoming wave of populist was so hauntingly reminiscent of the travails they were subjected to. I told myself there that I’d be an ally in this fight against untruth and hate.

I am applying to work for the Washington State Democratic Party not only because of my extensive experience as a political campaign staffer and manager, but also because I am deeply motivated to fight for the values of responsible leadership, tolerance, and honest governance our country so deeply needs. Against Trump, we are fighting for the very well being of our nation’s character and those who rely on its democratic protections. I believe that working for progressive legislation represents the vanguard of this resistance. I possess an extensive background of direct experience working on progressive political campaigns as well as several legislative internships, which should speak well to my managerial and organizing skills working within a larger organization.

Between 2012 and 2016, I worked as campaign leadership for five consecutive political campaigns. In 2016, I acted as Director of Media Operations for Bill Bradburd for Seattle City Council, where I was responsible for managing and maintaining relations with major media outlets such as the Seattle Times and Seattle PI. Prior to this, I was respectively Director of Field Operations and Campaign Manager for two city council races, where I led GOTV and voter persuasion operations for turfs of over 100,000 potential voters. All of these jobs I undertook while pursuing a full-course load at the University of Washington. In the legislative arena, I interned at Sen. Maria Cantwell’s D.C. Office, where I researched the wage shifts and environmental impacts of the Trans-Pacific Partnership for residents of Washington and Oregon State. Senator Cantwell’s legislative staff subsequently informed me that Senator Cantwell used this research extensively in closed-door committee discussions to emphasize the domestic implications of increased international trade. As well, I interned at the State Department’s Guangzhou Consulate where, using Mandarin language only, I managed a cadre of locally-employed embassy staff to establish a voting registration project for American expatriate citizens. In Guangzhou, I also worked in pattern analysis at the consulate’s Visa Fraud Prevention Unit, where I helped determine the location of visa counterfeiting rings, research which was then provided to local authorities for prosecution. This diverse background provides me with a comprehensive set of experience managing political campaigns and working collaboratively to achieve goals in a short timeframe, something that I may parlay into my work in Congress.
