Writing and Editing Experience

The Catalyst Magazine (UCSB) – Editor of Literature (September 2016 – December 2017)
-Worked as the Editor of Literature for the creative arts magazine at the University
of California, Santa Barbara. Collaborated with my fellow editors and advisor on
deadlines, designs, and magazine publication. Edited all written work approved for
publication. Met and worked with writers post-editing to review changes. Met
deadlines, organized meetings, and performed both copy and content editing.
Participated in the magazine by submitting and publishing my own poetry and
vignettes.

The Camarillo Acorn – Paid Stringer (September 2010 – October 2014)
-Wrote a semi-annual column based on opinion and personal experience for
Camarillo, California’s citywide paper. Tasked with managing deadlines and
responding to feedback from both my editor and the people in the local
community. Taught me the importance of self-expression and the power one’s
voice has in their community, as well as the importance of maintaining deadlines
and adhering to the conventions of writing for publication.

Related Work Experience

Santa Barbara Unified School District – English Language Arts Teacher Candidate (August 2018 –June 2019)
-Completed a full year of student teaching in a district through my Masters
program. Taught English 8 Honors and English 12 College Prep over a course of
three teaching takeovers. Taught lessons on writing (creative and academic), while
also instructing students on proper grammar use and writing techniques.
Developed a positive and open space for students to explore and perfect their
writing. Met with a Professional Learning Community every Thursday to collaborate
on individual instruction.
University of California, Santa Barbara – The Catalyst Writing Course Instructor (September 2016 – December 2017)
-Worked with college students on their creative writing, art, and digital media design
projects in a university setting. The editorial team of The Catalyst magazine is
asked to teach this course every year. It is an Interdisciplinary course worth 2 units
per quarter. Developed lesson plans and lectured about the creative process to
students. This class was on Tuesdays and Thursdays every quarter for an hour and
fifteen minutes. A professor advised us; he did not instruct the course, but partook
in class activities.
