RE: Application for Office Business Manager

Aloha Board of Directors for Montessori Education Center,

I am applying for the Office Business Manager position at the Kamuela Campus.

For the past eleven years, I have worked for a small locally-owned company, where I have gained many different skills and practical capabilities that will meet the needs of this role. As the creative director for Ainahua Florals, I work hand in hand with a wide variety of people, ranging from catering managers and directors, wedding planners, destination management companies, brides and grooms, sales managers and directors, chefs, property managers, widows and widowers, parents and grandparents, students and teachers, etc. planning numerous events over the years. These events vary from hosting thousands of attendees for corporate events to simple birthday parties with a handful of guests. My role as the liaison between client and company largely affect the décor department, as I am responsible for selecting flowers and other enhancements to fit specialized themes. From start to finish, clients work directly with me through means such as phone consults, emails, in-person consults, FaceTime, and text messages. I create estimates and invoices, as well as collect and process payments using QuickBooks.

Aside from being the Creative Director, I also serve as a Manager on Duty. As a manager of Ainahua Florals, I work with other associates to make sure everything is running accordingly. I oversee daily tasks such as answering the phone and taking orders, checking the fax and email, maintaining proper general housekeeping protocols, assisting customers with purchases, and carrying through with the completion of orders whether it be creating the design or delivery.

In college, I was fortunate to be a part of the Council of International Students and Organizations, where I held a chairperson position for different events throughout the year. These events could range from lasting a few hours to spanning an entire week. As the chairperson, I was in charge of scheduling, fundraising, allocating money, setting up transportation, advertising, hiring vendors, finding venues, and other general tasks.

I am motivated to learn new skills, and I possess the ability to work well with a variety of personalities. These are but a few reasons why I believe I could be an asset to your education center. It would be most appreciated if you would be so kind as to extend the opportunity to meet and discuss my application at an interview. I have enclosed a copy of my resume for your consideration and can be reached at any of the contacts listed.

Thank you for your consideration. Have a wonderful day!

Mahalo,
Kelsi K.A. Mercado

Although I am not using my degree in my current profession, the skills I learned while at UM are what make me the person I am today. In networking and coordinating with other teams of students from the Council of International Students and Organizations to manage annual festivals and events, I gained valuable professionalism skills. As a founding executive board member of Hui Aloha, the first Hawaiian Club at UM, I practiced sharing aloha and Hawaiian culture with all of Florida.
