Work History

Ardent Preschool and Daycare (Formerly Covenant Classical School)

In August of 2017, I began working with a Pre-K class as a closer in a part-time position. In February of 2018, I was promoted to Assistant Teacher of a Pre-K class. In February of this year, I was promoted to a Lead Teacher position of a combination Pre-K and Kindergarten class using the Abeka curriculum. I also created and compiled a summer curriculum for all the Ardent campus locations.

Children’s Lighthouse Learning Center

After moving back to Birmingham to be closer to family, I accepted a position at Children’s Lighthouse Learning Center in Hoover. I worked in a classroom with infants. I love children and I enjoyed the job, but I love teaching and prefer older children. When a position was available with what was then Covenant Classical School, I jumped at the chance to work with older children. In the infant classroom at Children’s Lighthouse, I engaged the children through music, flashcards, and infant sign language. Even at an early age, I believe that learning is important.

Oasis Child Enrichment Center

I was not looking for a job but was contacted by the director at Oasis. She heard about me through a mutual friend. I began working there as an afterschool teacher in December. I was the lead teacher in a large classroom of second and third graders. I assisted with homework and guided the children through the various centers in the room. When homework time was over, there was a group activity time that might involve art, games, music or even problem solving. I accompanied the students on the playground and supervised their care.

I was promoted a few months later to the position of lead teacher for the entire facility. The lead teacher position duties include a tutoring class where I worked with ten to twelve children. I was also the teacher for the middle school group at Oasis. As part of the lead teacher position, assisted the other teachers with preparing lesson plans and centers.

Calvary Christian School
I truly enjoyed working at the Extended Care Program at Calvary Christian School. I was an Extended Care Teacher with a three-year-old class. My day began by assisting the children at lunchtime. After lunch, I prepared the children's mats for naptime. After naptime, there was an hour-long educational setting where I developed my own curriculum for them, based on what they were learning in the ABeka K3 class. We read, sang songs, played games and I assisted in seatwork. After school time, the children had outdoor play for an hour. The rest of the afternoon was spent in centers with toys or puzzles.

Doherty, Duggan, Hart & Tiernan Insurors

I was an administrative assistant, and one of the receptionists, for an independent insurance agency in Albany, Georgia. I answered and directed customer calls for all five branches of the company. I have excellent phone skills and people skills. I greeted customers and handled customer service issues. I was able to make customers feel comfortable and welcome. I have a big smile and my supervisor always said that I was willing to do any job, no matter how trivial.

Drawdy Roofing Inc.

This was a receptionist plus job in Albany, Georgia. I handled all the incoming phone calls in a very busy office. I kept an Excel spreadsheet with each call that came in. I kept a detailed log with the customer's name, number, address, and each message. I handled some very delicate customer service issues. I was involved in sales, collections and followed up every service call. One of my responsibilities was handling the company advertising. This job allowed me to use my attention to detail and my people skills.

Plantation Builders

This job was a sales manager position in Leesburg, Georgia. I worked in the model home of a new subdivision. I directed the sale of new homes. I was not a high-pressure salesperson, but I saw a reasonable amount of success because I was honest, and people seemed to trust me. I oversaw the sales staff and arranged the work schedules. I was responsible for maintaining the orderliness of the home sites. I wrote weekly letters and emails to prospects as well as making follow-up phone calls. I also had to handle customer service issues with prospective homeowners and homeowners.

Habitat for Humanity International

I was hired as the assistant manager of the Global Village and Discovery Center gift shop in October of 2003. I began managing the daily operations of the store in March 2004. In October of 2004, I was promoted to operations manager of the Global Village and Discovery Center. The Global Village was an educational attraction, which had a sampling of some of the types of houses that Habitat builds, around the world. I was responsible for managing the volunteer staff, which was comprised of diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds. I scheduled daily assignments and ensured that the site was properly maintained and cleaned. I guided group tours through the village. I conducted tours with individuals and groups who were potential major donors for Habitat's building program around the world. I planned special events to promote awareness of Habitat's mission and to help raise funds.

Wee Kids Day Care
For ten years, I was the owner and operator of a state registered daycare in Americus, Georgia. I had a large home with a room set aside specifically, for the daycare. I had six full-time children. I used a pre-school curriculum to teach the children colors, numbers, letters, etc... I maintained high standards and had a reputation as an excellent daycare provider.

King’s Academy

When my children were young, I taught at a Christian school in Americus, Georgia. I was hired because of my knowledge of the Abeka curriculum and educational experience. I taught a combined fifth and sixth grade using the Abeka curriculum. The second year, I taught a fourth-grade class.

Pensacola Christian Correspondence School

For five years, I worked for the Pensacola Christian Correspondence School on the same campus where the Abeka curriculum is developed. At that time, the Correspondence School was on the cusp of the homeschool movement. It was designed to provide legitimacy and an umbrella of protection to homeschoolers. Missionaries from around the world sent their child’s schoolwork there to be graded, as well as average families and even celebrities. I remember Johnny and June Carter Cash enrolled their child in the program. My job was to grade packets of kindergarten work that were sent in every few weeks. I would grade the papers, enter the grades into the file, and send the packets back to the parents. Even though I never personally met my students, I was considered their teacher. Many of the students would send personal notes to me and I would send notes and photographs of myself back to them. It was a very rewarding job.

Related Skills

I am a people person. I have an outgoing personality and I interact well with the public and co-workers. I am naturally enthusiastic when communicating. I have excellent written and communication skills. I am very organized and have good time management technique. I have a strong work ethic. I want to do a good job for myself and for others.

I have many years of experience with the Abeka curriculum. I even homeschooled my own children for several years using the Abeka curriculum. I taught my daughter how to read. Through the years, I have been amazed at how much children can learn and absorb. One of the greatest strengths of the ABeka curriculum is the Phonics program. I have seen it work consistently. If children are taught to read phonetically, they can read practically anything. In my years of experience, I have taught every elementary level using the Abeka curriculum except first grade.
