EXPERIENCE
Various Families, Johannesburg, South Africa.
Babysitter 1/2012 – 1/2017
Cared for children from infants to age 11, from morning until night, preparing meals, bathing,
planning activities, playing games, and looking after them as if they were my own until the parents returned home.
Assisted with homework by helping children get organized, showing them appropriate steps to
complete projects, from easiest to hardest so they wouldn’t get overwhelmed.
Taught older children math to reinforce concepts and assist with homework, improving their
understanding and confidence in the subject.
Picked up children from school, drove them home and to the park, assuring their safety and
Wellbeing.
I cared for three different families. The first family had one boy age 11. He did not require much from me because he was able to take care of himself. I was mostly helping by picking him up from school and taking him to his soccer practice. At home, I would make his dinner and help him with some math homework. He often struggled with fractions, factorization and any concept with prime numbers mostly because the subject was new. I was able to simplify the material by using different methods where he felt comfortable and understood it better.
The second family had a boy age 7 and a girl age 5. They were very active and loved to participate in fun activities. Therefore, I would pick them up from school, drive them to the park, where they could ride their scooter for the first thirty minutes, then we would play together and make sure they mostly run to use up their energy. At the house, I would give them a shower, and make dinner. Their homework consisted of crafting and reading. In order to help them with their projects, I would make sure we started from the basics so that it could be fun at the same time. I would tell them that the first one to get all the materials such as paper, pencils, glue, etc, would win a price, this helped them get fully involved and enjoyed the activity. We would then start drawing, cutting and pasting shapes while having a lot of fun. I did it this way so that they did not think of homework as a boring and tiring activity rather of additional fun home activity. They also had a lot of home reading to do, which they loved.
The third family consisted of a baby age four months. I bathed, fed, walked to the park, and mostly cared until parents returned home.
Babysitting is among my favourite activity I got to experience because I spent time with children and learned many things from them and was able to help them as well.
