Please accept this letter and the enclosed resume as my application for this position. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Health Education from Worcester State University. I have always been passionate about helping others. In high school I worked at my local ice skating rink, volunteering with learn to skate programs for children ages 4-10. That is where I first fell in love with educating others. I then went on to teach hockey camps in college. It was there that I started to see the impact you can have on a child. During my time at Worcester State I took an early childhood education class, requiring me to have 25 hours of in class time observing and interacting with the students as well as teach my own lesson. I was very nervous, but after that experience I realized this was something I was very passionate about. Following college I moved from Massachusetts to Chicago to work serving as an AmeriCorps member in City Year Chicago. I dedicated one year of service to a low-income community aiding a fifth grade math classroom tutoring and mentoring focus list students on academics, social emotional learning and attendance. After school I rotated between running a basketball program for 5th-8th graders and doing homework help with the 2nd grade students. While working with AmeriCorps I also completed various trainings in professional development and leadership, while also becoming CPR certified. I recently moved back to Worcester. I feel with my prior experience and my passion for education I am more than qualified for this position. Throughout my years working as an educator or coach, I have been able to form strong relationships with students while still upholding my role of a supervisor. My time with City Year AmeriCorps trained me and developed me into a very confident and respectful young teacher.
